3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAR 2, 2013 Pours a copper orange with a half a finger head, with champagne like carbonation. Impressive in the tulip glass. Head dissipates quickly with no lacing. Nose of alcohol, malt and caramel/ginger. First time I tried this, the taste was disappointing as alcohol completely overpowered the taste. However, maybe I got used to it, because in the 2 subsequent bottles, my enjoyment increased significantly. There are hops and sweetness in the taste, and the alcohol is definitely present. It has the consistency of a desert wine, so it drinks slowly.---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Classic pale Doppelbock, once advertized as strongest beer in the world. Thin, yellowish head quickly dissolving under influence of the alcohol, deep orangey amber colour, clear. Powerful aroma dominated by alcohol, as in a cognac or orange liqueur, Belgian chocolates, orange peel, marzipan, tobacco, caramel. Soft malty taste with lots of honey- and sugar-like sweetness in onset, alcohol rapidly setting in with a burning, astringent effect in mouth and throat, way too much to be good. Some meatiness (broth) in the background as well.

Doppelbock ŕ la trčs belle robe ambrée. Trčs peu de mousse. Beaucoup d’alcool mais des aromes puissants qui se développent progressivement avec aisance. Chouette !

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
The body has a rich deep amber colored body with good clarity. On top, the head is small and fades quickly. It leaves only a small patch of thin lacy bubbles. This is all very slick and no lace sticks to the glass at all. The aroma is interesting and not exactly what I had expected, in a good way. I get a slightly buttery note with some candy like (grape sucker) sweetness backing it up. There is only a very slight hop note way off in the background. The flavor reminds me somewhat of a fortified wine. There is a mild alcoholic warmth throughout with notes of wine grapes and grape candy sweetness within a big malty body. Again as in the aroma, the hops are distant and offer very little bitterness. The palate is what I would expect with its carbonation and mouth feel are right on for the style.

330ml Bottle from Beers Of Europe website (Ł2.49):
Strong, very sweet & quite malty with plenty of caramel & dark fruits. Some spice, cloves & dates with some raisins. The balance is good & the aroma complex, with some faint hints of alcohol coming through.
Caramel amber with a thin, bubbly beige head that disappears after a few seconds.
Sweet, very malty with faint alcohol. Spice, dark fruits & plum come through with some dates & figs. A good beer from the start with nice caramel flavours & a great balance that had a nice kick to it.
Medium to full bodied with some creaminess in places & plenty of sweetness throughout with some alcohol coming through, although it was hidden for the most part. Great balance & the beer was quite complex & rich, as well as being easy to drink.
I had fears that it would be a little strong and overpowering but thankfully this wasn’t the case. Very sweet & malty, the beer tasted great. Definitely one worth picking up & it was fairly cheap as well which always helps.
