Nice and strong, but too sweet and the alcohol taste lingered after the finish.I’ll have a few of these laying around for a while,so I’ll try it again in the future.[possible re-rate?]

Certainly one of the most underrated beers I’ve tried (the argument refers to the average score in Ratebeer). Fairly high alcohol level is a great hidden. Excellent winter beer for a very reasonable price.

This is a delicious Doppelbock. I am drinking this bier and the Celebrator Doppelbock as well. The EKU 28 is sweeter and maltier in flavor whereas the Celebrator is darker and has slight smoky quality. Both are from bottles so that makes a huge difference, as I had the Celebrator on tap earlier this week at Grunauer Restaurant in KC, MO. On tap is definitely a bigger tasting bier. I like drinking both biers and taking a sip of EKU 28 followed by a sip of Ayinger Celebrator. Life is good!

Ambrée limpide, carbo tres faible, pas de collet.
Aromes caramel fruits rouges et noisettes
Trop sucrée et alcooleux malgré des saveurs caramel sympa.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, 21 years past bb... Bless you, MiP... Murky brown, small, airy offwhite head. Heavy, oxidised, malty candy aroma. Similar flavour, very sweet, dark caramel. Surprising.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, 21 years past The BBD! Pours hazy dark ruby with no head at all. Clear aroma of barrel, malt and caramel. Dusty onset, replaced by sweet notes of malt, caramel and fruit. Sweet aftertaste with subtle sourish notes. Tastes like a decent barley wine, actually. Nice.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
From a 12 oz bottle. Pours clear medium amber. Flavor is heavy malty, slightly fruity, very little hoppiness, moderately boozy. Thin mouthfeel for a dopplebock. Strong alcohol flavor leaves this beer as little more than mediocre.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from French supermarket. Amber with no head. The taste is very boozy with notes of sherry, liquorice and mild spiciness. OK but the alcohol is a bit too much really.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
BOTTLE 33 CL BB 05-JUN-2015.
Look: clear copper, beige frothy head with poor retention.
Aroma: big malts, fruity oxidized notes, a hint of alcohol and even that goes away after a while being replaced my some marvelous nutty sherry notes.
Taste: big malt, very sweet, alcohol spice and heat but almost no rough ethanol flavour, nutty notes.
Very fine sipping beer, which is hugely underrated on RB.

"this isn’t quite my preferred method to get a high abv, but it’s ok on a cold wintry night. sweet and heavy, fruity, with some malts and barely noticed hopping. not something i’d go out of my way for."
