Bottle picked up at Total Wine in Alexandria. Served in a Hill Farmstead wine glass.
Pours a bright red-copper that is nearly transparent. Quite light and clear for a doppelbock. There is a thin off-white head to begin, though that quickly disappears and doesn’t leave anything behind other than a few thin legs.
Smell first pushes through some notes of sherry along with some dark fruits, cherry, and molasses. Brown sugar there as well. Lightly sweet and a bit boozy. Very complex. Flavor isn’t quite as well integrated, hitting more of the sweet brown sugar notes and less of the sherry. There’s also quite a bit more booze than there was in the nose. Feel is medium with low carbonation and a bit of alcohol. Quite good overall. Very different than the typical doppelbock, though something that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Nice copper color with a white head that fades into trailing pools of carbonation. Nose is sweet with some fruit and alcohol. Medium carbonation. Taste is very sweet upfront. Nice, rich mouthfeel. Hints of orange that remind me of Grand Marnier, macerated fruit, raisins. Some hop bitterness on the back of the tongue evens out the sweetness. Noticeable alcohol, but that is to be expected. A good after dinner beer in the midst of the winter!

( 330ml bottle thanks to bu11zeye) Pours clear amber with good lacing. Nose of alcohol, wheat. Taste some alcohol, chocolate, lightly sweet toasted grains. Finishes a little syrupy, but a very good beer.

Clear dark amber beer, aery small off-white head, dissipates immediately, non adhesive. Aroma: caramel, overripe banana, port, orange peel, alcohol. Smells like it’s been aged for 5 years already. MF: good carbon, full body. Taste: overripe banana, marzipan, amaretto, sweet caramel, some fudge, green banana peel, little bitter. Aftertaste: sugary, caramel, bit metallic, some alcohol but in general the alcohol is pretty well hidden.

Pours a honey amber, with very noticable maltiness and alcohol on the nose straight out of the bottle. Soft large bubbled head, which disipates fairly quick. Medium viscous, with a barleywine type character. Lots of heavy malts and alcohol on the palate. Some may shy away from this type of strong beer, but I love to induldge in these big beers once in a while. Good beer just not a daily drinker.

Clear amber with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, fruity and alcohol. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Sweet finish with warming alcohol. 031211

UPDATED: OCT 18, 2011 Bottle pour to snifter gives fairly clear amber-brown color with very brief thin white head. Aroma malts and alcohol. Taste sweet malts, lots of alcohol, caramel. Alcohol very evident. Mildly bitter finish, not particularly pleasant. Palate a bit syrupy.
Re-rated - very sweet but my palate has changed to accommodate the alcohol and syrupy palate. Overall I enjoyed it. Malt bomb.

Színe borostyán, tetején egy gyorsan összeeső habbal, szénsavassága élénk.
Illata malátás, gyümölcsös.
Némi csípősség kíséretében, egy igen édes, melaszos, gyümölcsös ízzel indul.
Aromájában a karamellás jegyek dominálnak, befejezése fűszeres, édeskés, száraz és erőteljesen alkoholos, mely igencsak felmelegít "odabenn".
Teste kerek, és sima/lágy.
Nem egy könnyen iható ital, annyi szent, ettől függetlenül, nekem bejött...
