4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 drpimento (1695) - La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 24, 2007
Mmmm, very nice. Poured with a huge, thick, foamy, light tan head. Very little lace. Great dark copperish amber color. Aroma is very intense malty, caramel, toffee, and yeasty. Flavor is the same. Finish is yeasty bitter at first then fading to above sweet flavors. A hint of the big alcohol, but not bad. Super rich; would only want one or two. Having this one with a bowl of spicy congee and it’s a perfect match. They have it a Bodega downtown La Crosse too.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 rampmaster (643) - Alden, New York, USA - DEC 3, 2010
Presentation: It was poured from a brown 11.2oz bottle into a small mug. The label lists the abv at 11% and there is a short description on the back.
Appearance: The body has a rich deep amber colored body with good clarity. On top, the head is small and fades quickly. It leaves only a small patch of thin lacy bubbles. This is all very slick and no lace sticks to the glass at all.
Smell: The aroma is interesting and not exactly what I had expected, in a good way. I get a slightly buttery note with some candy like (grape sucker) sweetness backing it up. There is only a very slight hop note way off in the background.
Taste/Palate: The flavor reminds me somewhat of a fortified wine. There is a mild alcoholic warmth throughout with notes of wine grapes and grape candy sweetness within a big malty body. Again as in the aroma, the hops are distant and offer very little bitterness. The palate is what I would expect with its carbonation and mouth feel are right on for the style.
Notes: I am defiantly a fan of this beer.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 ludhaber (14) - Massachusetts, USA - MAR 20, 2011
Smoth buttery beer with a malty finish. The hops is light and could be better balanced but for an 11% beer this finishes smooth and easy very easy to drink.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 KapitiCritique (312) - Leawood, Kansas, USA - DEC 9, 2011
Big, sweet, thick and malty. Smells like a malted milk - nose is huge. Deep beautiful amber, dense but thin head ( I reckon this was chilled too much) very sticky lacing, very fine texture, creamy and sticky, acidic, tart and sweet with a sparkling tongue.
4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 oberabcbbsok (686) - Hoboken, BELGIUM - MAY 15, 2007
UPDATED: JUN 10, 2008 A very strong beer. The taste of alcohol is there. A very special taste as well ice cold as not so cold. Really a beer for persons who have experience with strong beer
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 Got Stout? (173) - Wisconsin, USA - FEB 11, 2002
Ok, I am really going to look like a dumbass rating this the way I did, but maybe VENOM and I have some really odd rating characteristics (or it was in my trunk of my ’72 LTD just long enough...haha). This is my first Eisbock that I had, and it sounds weird, but I think that I can compare it to a Strong Belgian and not think twice. An overwhelming flavor of vanilla and oak really masked the alcohol on my part; not so much on everyone else’s tounge. A sweet, almost tangy palate reckons back to a spoon of sugar. Well, I liked it dammit!
4.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Ohmybock (29) - Georgia, USA - JAN 4, 2003
UPDATED: FEB 5, 2010 Malty aroma, but really not all that special. Beautiful amber color with a light head that quickly dissipates. Medium carbonation. Flavor is a clean, malt assault on the tongue combined with some heat from the alcohol. This beer is sweet, yet it’s not over-the-top like some English-style barleywines. When I first tasted this beer ten years ago, I wasn’t all that excited about it. Now it’s become one of my favorite bock beers. I really love the extra-clean, toffee, maltiness that this beer exudes which you almost never find outside of German beers. I also really like the over-ripe pear aroma/flavor in this beer. To be fair, this brew is not something I would drink often, but I love to keep some on hand for the times when I’m "in the mood." For what it’s worth, this beer pairs amazingly well with blue cheese. The moderately priced buttermilk blue from Wisconsin does a fine job of countering the sweetness of EKU 28.

Wow, what a malt bomb. I love the body on this one, with just barely perceptible hops. Interesting huge lager. One of my favorites.
