3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 goldtwins (4320) - Nesconset, New York, USA - MAY 19, 2005
Poured a golden amber with a sparce head. Aroma was sweet and malty with some apples thrown in. Very malty sweet with more apples and a good amount of alcohol warming. The sweetness covers the alcohol taste though. Full-bodied.

Drowning toast in a pool of whisky…Caramel candy is floating around but there isn’t enough to be used as a buoy…A wet log then passes by and allows some dark fruit and sugar to survive and thus stay above the alcohol…
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 matta (1140) - Tampa, Florida, USA - AUG 7, 2003
This is basically an after dinner liquor. It’s not a beer you would ever want to buy a 6 pack of, unless you were having a dinner party, I bet this beer be tasty over vanilla ice- cream. This beer has a heavy, rich, molasses like palate. This Eisbok has a sweet dramatic honey, caramel, and alcohol flavor and nose. A very enjoyable beer if you are ready for a strikingly heavy and sweet beer.

Wow, what an oversite...I have not rated the first beer I legally drank, well time to fix this, served in my Expedition Snifter:
Takes on a rich amber cider hue with a fading head and little lace, oily film does appear and coat the glassware. The aroma has notes of granny smith apples, overripened fig, heavy caramel and crystal malt, butterscotch (but in a good way) and twinge of alcohol vapors. The taste starts with a massive dose of sweetness, malty and sugary. Supported by rich fruits and some pepper upon the finish. There is a hint of bitterness but it is far to subdued to do much good. I don’t think it is a sweet has other raters but still a bit over the top. The feel is warming for sure and does display a medical dryness after awhile. Good brew but not something i wish to have very often, which is better than the shocking first impression I had those twenty three years ago.

Sparkling clear amber with a fizzy quickly diminishing off-white head. The aroma is sweet and wonderful: very fruity (orange) with some smoke and alcohol. The flavor is sweet all around with a big amount of malt dominating everything. The smoke and fruit are here in spades along with some medicine qualties. The alcohol is bg and bold in this brew. The body is full and syrupy with a good amount of alcohol burn. This is the weakest Eisbock I have had. This ber is just a shadow compared to the other Eisbock brewed by this same brewer, which is truly a masterpiece of the style.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Syd (920) - Waconia, Minnesota, USA - APR 22, 2004
Bottle pours a dark amber color with a one inch head that goes away fast. The aroma is of sugar malt. The flavor is or malt, maple syrup, and more malt. The palate is quite syrup like (could have this on pancakes). Overall, this is a real swillin and chillin kind o brew.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 jzzbassman (1249) - New Albany, Mississippi, USA - SEP 22, 2007
Clear with a head that disappeared by the time I set the bottle down, with lots of champagne like bubbles. The aroma is really sweet cherry frosting. Flavor is sweet, but not too cloying, very alcoholic with a sweet tobacco like finish.

Wow! I had about three more beers I wanted to review tonight, but after this one, that ain't gonna happen.
And one of these days I'm gonna find an obscure beer that everyone here *hasn't* tried.
Sophisticated looking bottle. The only hints of what lies inside are the "11% Alc" coment on the front and the self-proclaimed comparisons to sherry and port on the back. No date stamp, but I'm sure this beer could last for decades without going bad.
Pours a clear amber with a decent head that doesn't last long, but the carbonation does keep a nice ring going along the side of the glass.
Smells *really* strong. Very malty smelling with some spice lingering.
Tastes of carmel and fruit hanging around with a hint of raisins. The alcohol is quite aparent without being overbaring. It's sweet but not too sweet.
Mouthfeel is thick and full leaving an alcohol feel in your mouth.
Drinkability suffers a bit in that there is no way a human could have more than one of these a night.
This is quite tasty, but *definately* more of a nightcap than I was expecting. I guess I was thinking I would be enjoying a barleywine, but this isn't even close.
