3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Quake1028 (633) - Tampa, Florida, USA - DEC 24, 2007
11.2oz bottle, fridge cellared for approximately 6 months.
First Eisbock rating. It’s about time. Golden hued orange body with an immense, barely off white head. This thing is at least 2.5 fingers thick and going nowhere anytime soon. Very bubbly and sudsy in appearance. A decent coating of lacing adorns the glass when the head finally has enough. Tons of carbonation bubbles are the only thing marring the otherwise crystal clear body. Nose has tons of perfume, along with candied oranges, booze soaked dessert bread, cherries, pears and tons of fusel alcohol. Smells even bigger than the 11%, which is quite a feat. Fore is tart fruits, candied sugars, fruit cake soaked in booze and spice. Back end picks up a lot of citrus esters, along with more candied sugars and doughy notes. Not as sweet as I thought it would be judging by some of the ratings. Medium bodied, coats the tongue and throat like a hard liquor does, has a very rum like feel to it, only far more carbonated. Finish is boozy as hell, a theme with this beer, then sweet and finally finishing with more harsh alcohol. I’m sure this one would improve with a lot more aging on it.

UPDATED: JAN 20, 2010 Draught at Freakin’ Frog. Honestly a fairly nice eisbock. Poured a still copper colout with no real head. Big aroma of caramel and molassas plus a little alcohol. Huge caramel flavour plus some more sweetness from brown sugar. Finishes with some alcohol warmth. I thought it was very enjoyable.

33 cl. Clear copper-orange with a lasting film of creamy foam. Nose of corn, grass and molasses. Flavor is caramel, grain, hay, peppery wood and cherry liqueur. Near-medium body is smooth, alcohol-dried and chest-warming. Give this one a chance; it gets better the further you delve.

Bottle shared by joebrew, pours a clear amber brew with a fast dissolving white head that leaves behind a swirling film top and some bottles on side. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, some toffee, plums and plenty of alcohol. Taste is slick/oily, medium to full bodied, with lots of sugary character of molasses, caramel syrup and corn syrup. Finish is very alcoholic strong and over the top sweet. I remember trying this back when I was 18 and was told this was the strongest beer ever made. Being nieve at the time thinking Pabst Blue Ribbon was what beer was supposed to taste like, I did not think much of EKU 28. Happy to say I know better today.

not sure of the age... prolly around a year.
reddish orange pour with a thin off white head.
the nose is really grainy and sweet... other notes of orange, flowers and alcohol stingy are kicking around as well.
the palate is thick though just shy of cloying... i guess that helps keep the alcohol under control... flavors noted of perfume, orange, grapefruit, caramel, loads of grainy sweetness, raisins and perhaps some nutty chocolate with a surprisingly dry finish.
thick, syrupy mouth feel makes it hard for me to finish a bottle alone...7/3/7/2.5/15/3.45

bottle. Lots of flavors vanilla, caramel, spice, and hops. Somewhat sweet and very strong. Big flavor. Not an everyday brew but maybe in the right situation. Caught me by surprise.

tawny colored with a tall flully white head. wood and red fruit aroma in good balance and intensity. Light in body and doesn’t remind me of a concentrated doppelbock at all. the body is very thin and the fruity sweetness reminds me more of a barleywine that goes down much too easy. Milk caramel, oak, and cherry.

12 oz bottle. Pours a nice orangeish yellow color with a little creamy head. Smells like Malt and sugar. This beer has a nice underlying sweetness that masks it’s 11%abv quite well. A very pleasant Eisbock indeed. :)
