COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This world-famous beer has the character and richness to stand in for fine sherry or port. Just the right degree of sweetness - never cloying; wonderfully aromatic and warming. EKU 28 is the one whenever something good and strong is needed.

Orange-amber, almost salmon colored, and lacking a head so it almost looks like a tinted wine. Hearty alcoholic malt aroma that reappears in the flavor. A great, warming , heavy on the palate, winter beer. Like a fine, malty wine.

An interesting Eisbock, but not my favorite. It seems quite sweet to the point of almost being cloying. Heavy caramel taste with a fruity twang. Alcohol is prevalent in the mouthfeel and finish. I will age some for 2,3,4,5 and six years to see what comes about. Color is a nice light amber and very clear. They filter this one.

Definitely alcoholic, but sweet enough to mask most of the vapors. It goes down smoothly and has a distinctive caramel mouthfeel.

Pours a decent frothy head, that disappears fast. Very malty, a bit vergetable-like. Thick, sweet, malty flavor with lots of warming alcohol. A peppery fruitiness (raisin and plums). Long, malty alcoholic finish.

This beer was brought to me with the official EKU 28 glass - which looked like a mini brandy snifter. Malty aroma and malty taste. As this beer warmed, I understood why it came with that glass - this beer does not mess around with its alcohol. In fact, that was about all that I could appreciate about this beer. If you do not appreciate spirits (not the ghost kind), then you should stay away from this beer. Or else grab a 6-pack of this stuff and have a party with the russian girl living across the street from you.

Crystal clear, burnt orange lager with a fizzy, khaki / orange head. In the nose, the high ABV is fairly well-hidden. Very fruity with notes of fuzzy and tropical fruit. Also, honey, dates and pineapple. The flavor is very malty, sweet and fruity. Again, the high ABV is well-hidden under notes of smoke, vanilla, dates and pineapple. Syrupy mouthfeel. Lively carbonation. The hops and alcohol don't quite balance this big brew out. Dry, alcoholic finish. Throughout, the malt is a touch cloying. Still a very nice brew... as I once again go against the grain.

diabel (1506) - Aarschot, BELGIUM - AUG 6, 2004
Frothy, off-white head which diminishes fully. Virtually no lace. Normally clear, orange body. Yeasty (dough), hoppy (flowers) and port aroma. Moderately acidic, lightly bitter initial flavour. Lightly acidic, lightly bitter (long-lasting) finish. Fully bodied. Lively carbonation. Moderately alcoholic feel.

Reddish amber hue. Very small white head. Malty, caramel aroma--like a doppelbock. Flavor is strong, sweet, malty and has an alcohol kick and a half. Alcohol is also in aroma, and it is up front in the flavor. I would rather have a standard doppelbock, but this isn't terrible by any means.
