4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 buckybeer (666) - Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 8, 2006
This is a tough one to describe. I have noticed that when you hit the 11% alc mark you can feel the belly warming effect. This pours a beautiful brassy amber color. Faint head. This is a true sipping beer. I liked it.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 Cajun (180) - Lafayette, Louisiana, USA - MAR 31, 2007
Bottle - Dark amber with thick creamy head. Strong aroma of malt, caramel, and alcohol. Flavors of thick sweet malt, molasses, honey, caramel, hint of bitter hops in the finish along with warming alcohol. I really liked the creaminess of it all and haven’t gotten that out of many beers.
4.1 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 gringo332 (380) - Richardson, Texas, USA - APR 4, 2008
UPDATED: OCT 11, 2008 Better clear your calendar before drinking this one. Very distinct flavor, different from any other beer. Smells wonderful. ured from the bottle into a pint glass. The beer has a nice, healthy aroma featuring some pine and earthy hops, with some dark fruit scents, and a candy malt contrast. it is pretty expensive.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 otakuden (1490) - Vero Beach, USA - JAN 9, 2011
Appearance: pours thick and slightly syrupy for a heavy amber and copper brilliance that is both bright and muted at the same time; aged. Coppery head starts thick but fades fast. Appearance of liquid sap.
Nose: sweet, rich, and lovingly boozy. Plums, raisins, apricots are all stewed in spices and sherry. Rum cake. Cinnamon sticks. Old world decadence and richness.
Palate: just as nose promised and more. Immediately warming; gentle and soothing. Spiced and sticky up front and dry in the finish. Warm in the middle and lingers in the chest. Plums and apricots are stewed long and slow, boozy, with hints of sherry and spice. Cinnamon sticks and wood in the finish. As warms apple skins, grapes, and peaches. Slightly sticky lips; honeycomb. Meadish quality with the honeycomb and warmth richness of alcohol. Sophisticated and complex.
Final Thoughts: super big thanks to Tim for this gem. My only regret is that I had but one bottle. Definitely a staple that would always be in my cellar if readily available.
4.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 DonKi11uminati (71) - , Indiana, USA - JAN 19, 2011
The aroma is delicate, sugary, smooth, woody, sexy. Pours amber with a small, creamy head and light carbonation. The beer is sweet, medium bodied, and syrupy. The finish is short, warming, and fruity, with only some alcohol. This is a great winter warmer, similar in some ways to the Kulmbacher Eisbock. It is elegant, easy to drink, warming, and overall impressive. I’m somewhat surprised by the overall Ratebeer score.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Bierkrug (1637) - Idar-Oberstein (In Senegal), Rhineland-Palatinate, GERMANY - DEC 27, 2009
330 ML bottle in Germany. Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t this used to be about 13%? Anyway, it is one of the better beers at being able to handle the high alcohol content. At one time this was the Strongest beer in the world. Times have changed. The original ice beer!
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 nike (500) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 5, 2011
When EKU 28 first came to Pittsburgh about 15-20 years ago, the 11% abv was at the time, the highest available. One of my favs, although I can only drink one in a night because of the sweetness (and alcohol). Excellent representative of German beer, well balanced, I prefer to allow the beer to sit at room temperature for a bit before consuming. Full body, dry, warm, alcohol finish. I’ll drink this before heading to bed, a brew that I will enjoy from time to time. A definite sipping beer, worth the try, you will not be disappointed!
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 JuStuka (201) - Edo De Mex, MEXICO - SEP 2, 2008
A strong beer, smells like caramel and malt, sweet malty flavour with lots of caramel with a strong alcohol finish.
