3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Aubrey (3125) - Bellingham, Washington, USA - NOV 9, 2004
Mostly clear and deep amber with a frothy, but fading, beige head. Sweet, fruity nose. Thick and syrupy malts followed by a mild carbonation. Finishes curiously dry. Quite a few flavors and aromas; some were odd, but nothing was too off-putting. Notes of raisins, pear, apples, plums and figs. Lesser notes of wood and sherry. Alcohol is masked well; just a little warmth in the throat, for the most part. Cozy beer. Pleasant to drink.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 leaparsons (6076) - Leicester, Leicestershire, ENGLAND - MAR 7, 2004
Nutty brown with hints of red and not much head. Aromas are sweet, syrupy and laced with all that alcohol. Flavours too are boozy with molasses and hints of brandy. The finish is an alcohol infused warming feeling. A decent nightcap.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Dickinsonbeer (5077) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - MAR 31, 2004
Deep gold/ light copper color with a slight head. Aroma is of malt and alcohol. Flavor is thick, malty and slightly warming from the high alcohol. Overall slightly cloying due to the high alcohol.

Yadda yadda yadda used to sell it - bla bla bla - could grab a bottle from case in winter and drink it - so what? I really didn't appreciate this despite liking so many beers back when. Good friend I worked with brought me one to see what I would think now. Much more appreciated, but overall it seemed like a monochord symphony all about the malt. Glorious malt. Superb malt. Excellent malt. I know there's more to it, but that's what struck me. Were it to incorporate the slightest of another complimentary element I think it could battle for a very high position.

Light copper-orange appearance. Alcohol and candy nose. Little to no head. Alcohol is very evident. Has elements of sherry, cotton candy and some rum soaked raisins. Not for the faint of heart. A little bit rough around the edges.
3.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 dortmunder (961) - Herdecke, GERMANY - MAY 26, 2005
UPDATED: MAY 27, 2005 Bottled. Clear amber colour. Very quickly diminishing head. Aroma of dark fruits, most prominently plums and strawberries. Otherwise malty and sweet. At first the taste is dominated by sweetness with a malty base. Then dark fruits come through, mostly plums, but no strawberries. Finish is suprisingly hoppy and bitter for such a sweet bock-beer. Mediumbodied with a normal mouthfeel. I don´t know why this beer gets such a bad rep from many people. I, for myself, liked it, especially the aroma.
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 tomxcs (317) - Berkeley, California, USA - JAN 17, 2005
Has the appearance of a rosé or something like a mix of cranberry & white grape juice; essentially no head & little carbonation but interesting look. Aroma is heavy malt with an alcohol sting. Taste is heavy malt as well; sticky sweet and alcoholic. Strong, warming alcohol palate. Good, but I found myself paying too much attention to the alcohol presence while drinking it.
