This world-famous beer has the character and richness to stand in for fine sherry or port. Just the right degree of sweetness - never cloying; wonderfully aromatic and warming. EKU 28 is the one whenever something good and strong is needed.

lovely coloured beer, you don’t taste the rheinheitsgebot, it’s a little bit like a barley wine, nice colour

Pours a clear amber color, topped with a medium off-white head. Malty aroma, dark fruity feel and caramel. Taste is sweet and malty, lots of alcohol presence (too much), some bitterness in the finish and metallic a bit. Just not nice.

11.2 oz. bottle served in shaker- poured a 85% transparent (other 15 is kind of cloudy), darkened brown color, 2mm white foamy head formed and laced very nicely upon the vessel. Aroma of alcohol, clove, and banana. Hits the mouth with a medium body, malt is washed in a sea of alcohol much like I will be shortly, hard clove in the middle, finish is very boozy. Would tear this apart, but I’m getting loaded tonight!

El aroma es escaso, sobretodo alcoholico. Color brillante rojo, muy bonito. El sabor a alcohol, nueces, ahumado. Demasiados grados para beberla a mediodia...

Better than the ratings it gets. Quite sweet and with pronounced alcohol, but really not unpleasant for the seasoned drinker.

Amber beer with close to no head. Smell is caramel, banana, alcohol. Taste is caramel, almost wine-ish, banana. Aftertaste is sugary, some bitter off-flavour that lasts for a while, bit metallic. Not a fan.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - deep amber with a thin head that falls away very quickly. Nose - honey, maybe some red fruits and definitely a boozy backdrop. Taste - toffe and honey. Maybe oranges. Luscious boozy finish. Palate - full bodied with a rich sweet middle section and a tangy and still rich and sweet finish. Overall - not exactly balanced or refreshing but nicely indulgent like a barley wine in some ways.

Pours a mostly clear amber color with a medium sized off white head that had great retention and left a good amount of lacing around the glass. The aroma is dark fruits, figs, some sugar, and yeast. The taste is sweet and fruity up front and you also pick up the alcohol. On the back-end you pick up some bitterness and dark fruits and figs. The mouthfeel is medium to heavy and the drinkability is low, it is quite a sipper.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 9A). Bottle 33 cl - Batch F2 21:05. AROMA: strong malty presence with notes of some caramel and bread crust (mailllard reaction). peppery alcohol aromas complement the malt. APPEARANCE: deep ambar color with slight orange highlights and translucent. medium to thin ivory head with low retention with some lacing. TASTE: strong malty and alcoholic presence with a sweet character and some toasty notes. moderately-low and balanced bitterness. almost sweet finish. PALATE: full body with medium carbonation. OVERALL: a very good (and strong) doppelbock.

330ml bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours clear amber, short-lived off-white head. Aromas of honey, caramel, light herbs, wood and boozy notes. Brandy maybe. Taste is sweet, light booze burn, malty, some fruit preserved in alcohol kinda thing going on. Slightly sticky on the finish.
