500ml bottle from Beers of Europe. A wonderful example of how a Helles is just another name for a pale lager. Golden piss...

FatPhil (5964) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - JUN 14, 2008
500ml bottle (alko)
Rich straw colour, scummy head. Slightly biscuitty malty aroma, slightly insipid hops too. A bit fizzy in the mouth. Very bland sub-pilsnery lager. Thin and gutless body. Better than cheap muck, and fortunately devoid of nastiness, but no real bite to the hops either. Just a pale lager.

   AROMA 6/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 6/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 11/20
wunderbier (1434) - Tampere, FINLAND - JUN 13, 2008
Healthy straw colour; jets of carbonation support a dense, white froth. Clean, honeyed and gentle nose with touches of lightly toasted white bread and wild flowers. Sweet on the tongue, lightly grainy, with a quenching acidity; the finish is restrained, floral. Slick in the mouth with ample carbonation and pinpoint carbonation.

Fluffy, clean and refreshing, but it lacks depth and a sense of class.

50cl bottle, best before 14 January 2009.

Bottled. Golden colour with minor head. Aroma is sweet hops and malts along with mild parfumeish notes. Flavour is sweet malts, some earthy hops as well as some saltwatery notes. Crisp. Tickling carbonation.

TBone (9096) - Pori, FINLAND - JUN 5, 2008
Bottled (BB 01/2009)
Clear golden color, small white head. Sweet malty, a bit buttery and grainy nose. Crisp, clean, malty flavor. Some metal, sweetness and acidic notes. Clean example of helles-style, unfortunately not very interesting.

Papsoe (21781) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - MAY 31, 2008
(Bottle 50 cl) Clear golden with a white head. sweetish malty nose. Medium body with a solid, clean malt base. Lightly bitter finish. A very straight Helles. 040408

   AROMA 6/10   APPEARANCE 2/5   TASTE 5/10   PALATE 2/5   OVERALL 10/20
Miksu (3887) - Jyväskylä, FINLAND - MAY 25, 2008
0.5 l bottle. Golden color with small vanishing head. Malt, honey and herbal hops in the aroma. Malty, honeyish and surprisingly metallic flavor with notes of herbal hops and fairly low bitterness. There is something wrong here, bottle is fresh but there is a dull metallic note.
