3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampled April 2015
A steady pour into my IPA glass produces a two-finger thick, pale tan colored head. The beer is a copper-gold color that shows a brilliantly clear, rich golden hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of dense kumquat zest, huge floral tropical fruit notes, it has an edge of pepper, herbal, and green-hop spice to it as well that provides a small balancing note to the huge up-front fruit character.
Amply bitter, which awakens my palate, and couples well with a very light body that has enough viscosity to carry the hop character. Dry citrus-zest leaning flavors up front yield to floral, and then lingeringly fruity notes of guava, huge lychee, and kumquat zest. The bitterness starts from the first part of each sip, and lingers long in the palate, making me want to take another quenching sip of this beer. The malt character plays a purely supporting role here, but quite a critical one, as it doesn’t leave the beer so dry that the hop-fruitiness can’t really shine in the flavor.
This is a solid, eminently fresh, explosively hoppy IPA; there is nothing here that I don’t like, and this is hitting the spot, and supplying the much needed hop fix that I was feeling.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Catty, skunky and a little dirty sock hop aroma which is really unusual but excellent. Nice clear light/medium yellow with a foamy white head. Searing hop bitterness attacks immediately with catty and grassy flavors. There’s a good solid body to this and a mild malt backbone, but it’s nearly broken by the bitter hops. The balance is tilted towards the hops, but there is definitely good balance here. The bite is so strong, I would have guessed this was a DIPA, but it’s squarely in the IPA camp by the numbers. Finishes with bitterness coating the tongue and a light honeyed sweetness. Excellent IPA.
