A brazenly hop-forward beast of a beer, with a huge passionfruit nose. A subtle caramel character provides a malt backbone to shoulder the massive amount of dry-hopping that gives this beer its unique aroma and hop flavor. Two 5 Left is the runway that sends planes screaming right over El Segundo. We always knew we would name a beer after this local landmark and when it came to naming our first Double IPA, it fit the bill perfectly.

Beer has an orangish color with a nice head. Aroma of lemons and pine with some mild sweetness. Taste has a nice bitter taste up front with grapefruit, fruit zest and hops which provide a good balance. Nice finish, good beer.

Poured from a bottle. Clear, reddish-copper with a foamy, off-white head. Citrusy aroma. Fruity taste with a lot of bitterness. Maybe some grapefruit in the taste. Improves as it warms a little. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

651mL from La Bodega, just arrived in the store. I wonder if it was handled well in transit? Clear amber red pour with good yellow foam. Good lacing. Nose is sweet tea, butterscotch, toffee. Taste is stickier, more dessert like with big toffee and butterscotch. Rich, malty, pretty sweet but not cloying. Not too abrasive. In a way it hits more like a barleywine than DIPA.

UPDATED: DEC 19, 2013 Bomber. Solid DIPA. LA is stepping it up in the beer game and this Angeleno is pleased. Pours a rich, clear amber with a nice beige head. Smell gives you the promised passion fruit, a bit skunky in the dank sense -- not the green bottle blues. Taste is what you’d expect from a solid DIPA, a bit sweet but not cloying. Carbonation visible but not as present in the mouth. It’d be tough to drink two straight but try me.

Bomber poured a clear orange amber with a lasting amber head. Aromas of caramel, orange zest, tropical fruit, peach and pink grapefruit. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of caramel, grapefruit, tangerine, light tropical fruit and a hint of pine with a smooth dry bitter lingering citrus finish.

Bomber from Bev4Less. Pours a clean looking amber-brown-orange. Minimal head. Aromas are sweet pale malt and something lemony. A little bit of dank bittering hop presence comes through as well. Taste is clean and good. Lots of citrus and passion fruit, good balance. Solid brew. Nothing spectacular or all that unique, but an excellent DIPA, with none of the usual problems of the style (too much malt, overcompensated hops, etc.).
