This beer is a traditional English-Styled Oatmeal Stout using 10% flaked cold rolled oats. It has rich coffee flavors with mild cocoa tones. El Toro Negro has a smooth, mild bitterness, full body and is very drinkable.

Creamy dark mahogany pour with a small latte head. Coffee bean, toasted oats, cocoa, and a hint of vanilla. Solid mouthfeel but nothing to distinguish this from others in the style. Meh.

Bottle sample at a tasting at kerenmk’s place. Thanks kerenmk. Black, not opaque. Aroma of dark chocolate and some roastiness. Bittersweet roasty flavor with some dark chocolate and a drier finish, a bit coffee-ish. Medium-bodied.

12oz bottle via trade. Poured a good looking black body with an average sized beige foamy head that leaves some spotty lace rings. Aroma is the best part of this beer, notes of cream and chocolate, light hint of coffee, some additional well done toast notes, nut shells, alcohol on a deep inhale. Body is thinner with a watery consistency and lighter carbonation and a quicker fading aftertaste. Flavor is far weaker then the aroma, notes of chocolate and cream, egg cream soda, odd milk, wet burnt toast. Overall it’s okay at best.

Pours perfectly - black with a layer of tan foam that lasts. Aroma is stout, coffee, roasted malts, oatmeal, chocolate, very good. Flavor matches. Very drinkable, well balanced. Medium bodied, slightly thin. As it warms the flavor turns to dark fruit, cola.

Serving: 12 oz bottle via trade. It pours a very dark brown with a lively tan head. The nose has notes of bakers chocolate, earth, and a slightly sweet nuttiness. There is a slightly fruity, almost sour twinge up front that gives way to a mix of thin coffee, cocoa powder, light cherry skins, a touch of sweetness, earth, and nuttiness. Medium body with lower than average carbonation. A tasty alternative to the average oatmeal stout.

Bottle:   Black, thin frothy tannish head, sparce lacing.   Roasty, ashy, midly sweet on the tongue.   Not terribly big, seems a little on the thin side.   Clean, not acrid.   Lactose on the nose, amongst the soft roastiness and lactose.   Smooth, slight apple skin on the finish.   Decent, even if a touch on the lighter side.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a light mocha tan head. Roast coffee notes comes through more than anything, as I think it should. Medium/heavy mouthfeel. Sweet brown sugar, molasses, roast coffee, and chocolate flavors. Pretty tasty.

Dark brown pour with a tan head. Licorice, roasted malt, hints of smoke, and an oatmeal richness to it. A decent chocolate note and some light vanilla sweetness. A little bit bland in terms of the flavor. Roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, and some nice oatmeal notes. Very mild vanilla-like sweetness.

Pitch black, brownish head from bottle. Oats really come through in the nose along with some coffee. Rich chocolate tones on the palate, fades to dark chocolate, coffee bitterness. Full body. Solid effort.
