Named after a precious for of quartz indigenous to only Morgan Hill, California, this classic dark ale is smooth and refreshing. Its dark color results from the use of caramel, higher kilned dark crystal and chocolate malt. The beerís flavor is malty and fruity with a subtle roastiness. To finish Poppy Jasper is generously hopped with Galena, Cascade and Liberty hops for a perfectly balanced wonderfully complex character. Winner of the 1995 California Beer Festival Gold Medal; 1996 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal.

Pours a clear dark copper with a small off-white head. Light caramel malt and plenty of hops fill the aroma. Body is lightly sweet and full of western hops. Finishes dry and crisp with nice hop flavor. I wouldn't really consider this a brown ale, more of an amber mixed with an IPA.

Dark amber bronze with a thin tan pad. Sweet caramel, brown sugar and berries in the aroma. Straightforward, but likeable, flavour of nutty caramel with a fruity quality in the finish. Very good.

A- A nice golden brown hue which is crystal clear. Pours with a small 1 finger head that dissipates quickly and doesnít leave much lacing. S- The smell is sweet, roasted malts, raspberry, and various light and sweet fruits. T- Very sweet with a slight hop bitterness. Roasted malts are prevalent, very characteristic of an english brown. M- Crisp and highly carbonated in addition to being somewhat viscous. D- This is a highly drinkable brew. I could drink pint after pint.

Poured a deeper and cloudy brown color with an averaged sized off white head. Softer aromas of nuts, caramel and hops. Tastes of light caramel, nuts, with a light grapefruit finish. Definitely a hoppy presence for a brown ale compared to the brown ales Iíve had of late.
