COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named after a precious for of quartz indigenous to only Morgan Hill, California, this classic dark ale is smooth and refreshing. Its dark color results from the use of caramel, higher kilned dark crystal and chocolate malt. The beer’s flavor is malty and fruity with a subtle roastiness. To finish Poppy Jasper is generously hopped with Galena, Cascade and Liberty hops for a perfectly balanced wonderfully complex character. Winner of the 1995 California Beer Festival Gold Medal; 1996 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal.

A dark dark amber-copper beer with a minimal off white head. Flavor is heavy on wheat and grass. A fair amount of bitterness, some undertones of toasted malts.

Sample at the Brewpub The amber ale poured clear dark amber with a white head and lacing. The aroma was of caramel and toasted malts. The ale was balance between a sweetness and floral hops. The ale had medium body with average carbonation. The finish was clean with smooth tones of caramel malts.

Crimson pour with a small eggshell head. Caramel, toffee, brown sugar and a touch of citrusy hops. Pretty run of the mill amber. Nothing offensive but won’t get another.

Off the tap with one finger of head on a cloudy, dark straw colored body. The aroma is citrusy and honey, pretty nice. The taste is mildly sweet with a hop spicy middle. It’s smooth with moderate carbonation. Here’s a good beer with some unique flavors and still an everyday drinker.

Amber beer that drips of caramel and cocoa which is a strange target for this style.

Bottle; poured a clear orange/copper type color with not much head. Aroma of caramel, toasted bread, and fruit. Mouthfeel was a bit fizzy, but not too bad. Alot of caramel and toast, some fruit. Not amazing, but solid.

Amber in color with a white head. Toasted malt, bread, toffee, and caramel. Light floral hop qualities, some hints of pine, and a little citrus peel. The flavor is very sweet and malt forward. Lots of toffee, caramel, and bread. Floral hops, light pine bitterness, and some citrus peel. A little too sweet for me.

GABF. Orange pour, white head. Tropical fruit, toasted grain, honey and and some nutiness make up a pretty solid offering. The finish is lightly hoppy.

Tap. Ours clear deep amber, medium off white head that slowly dissipates with some lacing. Aroma is of caramel, grass, and hay. Flavor is medium sweet caramel, grass, with a light bitter finish.
