COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named after a precious for of quartz indigenous to only Morgan Hill, California, this classic dark ale is smooth and refreshing. Its dark color results from the use of caramel, higher kilned dark crystal and chocolate malt. The beer’s flavor is malty and fruity with a subtle roastiness. To finish Poppy Jasper is generously hopped with Galena, Cascade and Liberty hops for a perfectly balanced wonderfully complex character. Winner of the 1995 California Beer Festival Gold Medal; 1996 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal.

Bottle: Carmel in color, moderate to large foamy sandy hued head, very nice lacing.   Soft malt nose, seems to be mildly sweet.   Hop aspect is minor.   Pale malt flavor, very slight cereal and/or cardboard.   Minor enough to where it doesn’t really detract.   Little to no hop presense.   Light, fairly clean, easy on the palate.   I spoze as an English Style Brown thats why its not that agressive or at least assertive.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Does sorta fall off at the finish.   Splains why its fairly clean as not much lingers.   Light, quick to finish, but with some mild malt flavors.   Not bad, certainly worth a try.

12oz bottle, purchased at the brewery. Drank plenty of this in the last month or so; finally getting around to rating it. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a creamy, off-white head; fine-bubbled lacing. Cereal notes, light caramel, and a nice mineral and citrus bitterness on the perimeter, still allowing that malt character to show through. Medium body; moderate CO2; a really nice, toasty malt character comes through here, with modest accompanying notes of caramel and tea; lively in the mouth, with a soft surrounding of hops and a pleasantly dry, toasty finish. Just a delicious, hugely drinkable amber. Always happy to find this on tap or in bottles while traveling outside of North Bay.

12 oz single from "Lifesource" Salem Oregon. $1.45 By the label can see this one has been around for a while. Semi hazy dark amber ale with a really nice looking light tan head..thats is thick and creamy. Very toffee/ Scottish fudge like nose..this attracts me!Butterscotch, cream and toffee mm mm mmm. f\Taste is similar but with a nice toasted edge to it..i like. Nice smooth semi-thick body make this a really easy drinking beer. I thought this a very nice uber malty amber.

Pours amber into the glass with a huge foamy light tan head. Aromao is malt. Very creamy on the palate. Taste is robust malts, oats and nuts with a mild hoppy note on the finish. A delightful ale which pairs well with burgers and brats off the grill.

12 oz bottle from Bier Stein. Pours light amber with a gigantic fluffy white head and a lot of blotchy lacing. Aroma of caramel, biscuit, very light floral hops. Tasted very thin with caramel, floral hops, biscuit and some astringency. Not a very good beer at all.

Sampled on draught. Pours really nice, has a crispness to its aroma. Drinks really nice, full of caramel. Don’t taste the malts too strong, but really refreshing.

Bottle. Poured a dark orange brown with a thick lasting white head. Malty aroma, Malty flavour, but not as sweet as one would expect from the label. A lekker hop tinge and a lasting all over the tongue finish.
