Stubby 330 ml bottle, poured into a tulip. ABV 9% Brown colour on the body, on the lighter side, two fingers of off-white to light beige head. Thick, with good retention, leaves well formed lacing on the glass. Aroma of alcohol, red fruits, light caramel, light toffee. Taste of caramel and toffee, again red fruits on the finish, some little roasted malts, reminds faintly of porto wine. Nice bitterness, intense enough, with good duration. Medium thin body, I expecteed it more full. Soft carbonation that can be fizzy. Overall nice and enjoyable, but more of a belgian strong ale than a barley wine.

Bottle shared with Dutchdrebus. Clear dark red color, small white to off - white head. Smell and taste malts, lightly sweet, lightly some fruitpeel, lightly alcohol. Hmm average, nothing like a good barley wine imo.

Bottle at home. Hazy dark reddish brown pour, thin off-white head. Aroma of ripe fruits, sugars, some yeast, spices, licorice and heavy malts. Flavor is quite sweet malty with sugars and bitter spicy with some licorice. Decent body.

Bottle from ABC Beers, Den Haag. Poured a chear medium brown with a reddish hue and a bubbly off-white head. The aroma is yeasty with some citrus fruit. The flavour is medium bitter with lots of zesty red berry fruit and a smooth toffee caramel palate. A super beer and more than I was expecting.

Molasses, sugar-syrup dominated flavor. Very nice palate and (too) easy to drink. Not the most beautiful beer (reddish) but makes up in style. Bottle from De Bierkoning.

Sample at Bierevents tasting at the Veluwse Heidebrouwerij
Clear brown beer with a small beige fading head. Very promising aroma of rye, barley and caramel malts. Unfortunately this beers aroma is a lot better than its taste, which is disappointing. Same as the aroma but less of everything and without any back-up of a decent body. In fact it’s a very watery beer, nothing you’d expect from a 9,5 % beer or a barley wine (or quadrupel as it says on the bottle) Too bad!
