Tasted at the 13th Annual Strong Ale Fest on 12/4/2009. This American Strong ale pours a medium orange gold color from the tap. Small sized white foamy head. The aroma is malt, orange, strong apple vinegar, and alcohol. A medium bodied American strong ale. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are earthy. A train wreak of barrel aged beers, not sure what is supposed be going on here, but most of what I am tasting is alcohol, vinegar and some malts. Some tartness. I really could not get this beer. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Tap at Strong Ale 09. Pours orange with a tan ring. Nose is sweet, taste is sweet vinous and a touch interesting.

Served on tap at the 2009 Pizza Port Strong Ale Festival. This was one of the lighter in body barrel blends of the night. Lots of booziness in the flavors and nose but not really hot per say. I got a slightly sour note riding on the wood tones.

On tap @ Pizza Port Strong Ale fest 2009. One of the more unique beers at the fest. Brew was a musty brown color with a fain reddish hue. Nose held some funky sour notes, horse blanket, and some dry oak. Flavor was much of the same. Not overly complex but, interesting.

Hmmm this was not what I was expecting at all. On tap at the SD Strong Ale Fest 09. Not much bourbon whatsoever, some oak notes, a bit sour and tart, fruit, light spice. It’s not bad, just the name is deceiving.

On tap at 2009 PP Strong Ale Festival. A little bit dry and sour. A little bit of oxidation. Possibly some acetic acid. Not bad, but I’m guessing not their intentions and they are blending away a bad barrel. Interesting though. Can’t help but wonder if this is from another brewer, who didn’t want the beer under their name, but didn’t want to throw it away, because I don’t see any other barrel aged beers from Elden Ales.
