Commercial Description:
Creamy butterscotch notes flood the taste buds, laced with subtle complex fruit...and a subtle suggestion of vintage port. Elegant and seamless, this beer was a waltz on the palate.

1995 vintage, had this at The City Ale House in Danbury, CT... what a find! Poured a clear red with a tiny off-white head. Sweet chocolate and alcohol aroma. Taste is mostly chocolate and smoky caramel and molasses, with the smallest note of grassy hops in the finish. Body had decent viscosity but somewhat flat. I actually found this to be a tad too sweet for my tastes, and not as balanced as Lees Harvest Ale. Definitely a dessert beer.

RBESG05 (1990): Ruby, edging on brown, no head. Big dark fruit nose. Caramel there too. Flavour is caramel, prunes, dark fruits. Finish is spicy and estery. Very old yet still so drinkable.

Bottle, Vintage 1990. Dark red brown colour with no head. Prun, raisin aroma and taste, smooth. Medium to full body and a long light sweet finish. 8-4-7-4-17 Bottle. Vintage 1981. 6-4-4-5-13 I had this one right after the 1990 sampel. Dark red brown colour with no head. Also prun and raisin aroma, but in a faul way. The taste is a bit harsh but nod bad, just not great. Bottle. Vintage 1994. Deep red, no head. Dark fruits, raisins, pruns, alcohol aroma and taste, vanilla and wood. Medium to full body with a dry alcoholic finiah. 9-3-8-4-18

Bottle, vintage 1990, RBESG 2005 Grand Tasting. Intensely vinous oak and sherry aroma. Flavour is also intensely oaky and old sherry-like, incredible alcoholic punch, very sweet. Mature flavour, but no sign of it being oxidised. Will probably be good for another 15 years (at least).

(on bottle at RBESG 2005 1981 edit.)Orange-dark, no head. FAT chocolate-nose. Vinorous like a port, smooth like butterscotch. Finishes off quite grape-fresh. Enjoyable. (on bottle at RBESG 2005 1990 edit.)Heftig alkoholaroma and taste, overmuch. Allmost burning maltflavour too. I´m sure it´s a nice beer, but aged for 20 years first.

Bottle. 1981 version. Ruby coloured with no head. Anything about this beer aroma- and flavourwise can roughly be expressed in one word: Toffee. Smooth and creamy on the palate with an aftertaste of caramel and dried apricots. Very nice, but is it really worth all the fuss?

Bottled @ RBESG2005, Vintage 1990: Orange coloured. Unclear. No head. Sweet and marzipany aroma. Some vintage port notes. Spices, sweetness, fruits, and a nice balanced alcoholtouch in the flavour. This is very good and the alcohol is very well hidden.

Bottled @RBESG’05 (vintage 1981)
Very hazy nut brown, no head. Old barley, aromatic head. Lots of licorice, earthy sour notes, sweetish. Propably this bottle was a bit out of date.
