3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle 05647, bottled 11.05.13. Pours a dark brown with garnet highlights and a high, lacy, sticky light tan head. Nose is plums, dark candy sugar, port wine, light rye bread, nutmeg, dates, and mace. Sweet up front, with an earthy, almost mushroomy note; opens up into dark stone fruit, figs, molasses, and a dark rum richness. Wide, round, velvety mouthfeel. Wears its ABV astonishingly well, and is deadly smooth. Very, very good, and ninja-like in its subtlety.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Cellared for 2 years. Poured into a Belgian tulip. Color is a dark brown with a nice creamy head that dissipates quickly. It's an elegant quad with a malty body and plenty of fig/molasses. Belgian yeast comes through, followed by a touch of honey on the finish. Simply marvelous

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
750ml bottle. Reddish Brown pour with hardly any head. Low carbonation. Mild malt aromas. Earthy and fruity flavors, with a not too sweet honey like mellowness. Smooth and gentle Belgian yeast. Nice but not outstanding. The Belgians still have us beat on this one

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
August 23rd, 2012 - I donít know when Elevation Brewing Co. appeared, or where they come from. I donít even know where Poncha Springs is...and Iím a native to the state of Colorado. But I after having this beer, I want to hurriedly pack my bags, get in my car, and brave the high cost of gasoline to get there. The Apis IV is a truly remarkable beer, bringing back fond memories of bygone days where I spent more money on Belgian brews, and eschewed the hop dominated drinks that choke the city of San Diegoís draft lines. From the deep, brown body comes a heavy, gripping smell of charcoal, juniper, sweet cream and a touch of pine, drawing me back to fond memories hiking up and down and in and around evergreen forests. I linger a little bit on the bouquet, but am eager to see if the palate can match the nose. It does, and even exceeds it. The palate is smooth, soft and velvety, and delivers flavors of fresh, unpasteurized cream, the darker and huskier sweetness of candied figs, and the more acidic, perky sugars of a Bordeaux grape. The sweeter notes never take over, leaving the sugars to be a nice decorative touch, not a terrifying wave of fructose rampaging across my palate. The Apis IV is remarkable, and worth the cellar treatment to see what other subtle dimensions can be teased out over time.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a nice dark brown color with a light tan fizzy head that doesnít last too long. Aroma is great of banannas, dark fruits, honey and possibly some spice with a nice balanced hopiness. Flavor is very very well balanced. I note a good amout of dark fruits and esters. The flavor has a nice bitterness with a nice level of sweet dark fruits that linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel is smooth bitterness and carbonation is a little below average. Overall this is a phenomenal beer.
