Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of adnielsen. Pours an almost clear orangey brown with a small off-white head. Nutty aroma, brown sugar and molasses. Rich body, sweet licorice and again lots of brown sugar. Chocolatey, quite some minerals. Alcohol doesnít really show. Not that Quadruply, but pleasant. 140712

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Deep chestnut. Off-tan foam exhibits good retention. Complex but uninteresting nose of candied apple, cola, banana bread and honeyed biscuits. Obtrusive paintlike and vanilla taffy yeastiness. Fizzy, sparse and flimsy carbonation. Dull and slippery initially with a clingy burnt honey astringency. Aside from the easily executed usual suspects like raisin and plum which are in abundance here, the core is curiously hollow and strikingly devoid of depth and detail, and virtually no malt texture to fill in the gaps. Hops are pleasingly delicate, juicy, and brightly floral, though things remain generally dull and inelegant. A flabbiness and gummy candy slickness continue, only to be compounded by the twang of unripe fruit. No vibrancy, whatsoever. Closes with an ongoing hollowness with a prevalent burnt honey astringency. This is an odd one. Aside from the burnt honey, there arenít necessarily any flaws to it. As much as I appreciate straightforward beers sans bells and whistles, this suffers from being too straightforward. Itís just a very characterless, run-of-the mill rendition.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
bottle. early pour is clear cola brown with a medium tan head which dies quickly. starchy cola-scented brown malt, candy sugar, molasses and honey in the nose with peppery phenols, dried fig, backdust / mulch and alcohol. a lot of aromas at play in the nose but the integration is poor and rather than being complex (meaning a complicated and intricate arrangement of parts), itís more messy and disjointed and unfocused, going in many directions that thereís no cohesiveness to the nose at all. medium body, medium-light carbonation, medium-low acid. crunchy and toasty malts with sugar, light alcohol and more pepper and char. too sweet, too disjointed with flabby malt and burnt cola / caramel malt everywhere. amazingly lifeless texture. canít say anything good about this one, sadly.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap @ Ale House at Amatoís. Clear dark brown with a fading light beige head. Aroma was kinda grainy with some cereal malt notes, some light chocolatiness, and a touch of caramel. Flavor was also really grainy with some cereal tones, some chewy damp brewing malts, a faint bit of light chocolate, a touch of caramel, a small whiff of raisin, and a pretty present tone of honey sweetness with a cereal grainy linger.

Well, you always hope for the best with new breweries that make something more unusual than pale ales and wheat beers, but thereís just nothing to this one. Jeff and I spent an hour ruminating over this one and honestly this just doesnít have anything to offer. It even got worse as it sat in the glass. Pretty much just sugars in the nose, and so it goes in the mouth as well, with nothing to balance or provide intrigue. A very clunky and dull beer that will no doubt earn high ratings from its big alcohol, big sugar, lack of glaring off notes, and packaging (even though they misspell "palate" (as "pallet") on the overly verbose description...wasnít this the same brewery that referred to themselves as "artesian" instead of "artisanal" back when they first starting promoting themselves online? I shouldnít make fun, though, as English may not be their first language, but itís still funny that they donít proofread things like this).

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a dark brown with a nose of dark fruit, bread and some floral notes. The taste is a little bitter, but has nice flavors of fruits, yeasty bread, some brown sugar and leaves a sweet honey on your lips. It did have a little bit of an alcohol bite, but I bet with time this would go away and the flavors would be spectacular. A great beer and canít wait to crack another in a few years.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at Dans, big thanks to notalush. Poured a deep brown/caramel, with a small off-white head and good lacing. Smell is honey, spice, raisins, bread, and just a sweet aroma. Taste is sweet honey, candi sugar, plum, brown sugar, and dark fruits. Mouthfeel is medium, along with the carbonation. Overall, a surprisingly tasty and refreshing quad, and I am glad to see such high quality brew from a new CO brewery.
