Well, you always hope for the best with new breweries that make something more unusual than pale ales and wheat beers, but there’s just nothing to this one. Jeff and I spent an hour ruminating over this one and honestly this just doesn’t have anything to offer. It even got worse as it sat in the glass. Pretty much just sugars in the nose, and so it goes in the mouth as well, with nothing to balance or provide intrigue. A very clunky and dull beer that will no doubt earn high ratings from its big alcohol, big sugar, lack of glaring off notes, and packaging (even though they misspell "palate" (as "pallet") on the overly verbose description...wasn’t this the same brewery that referred to themselves as "artesian" instead of "artisanal" back when they first starting promoting themselves online? I shouldn’t make fun, though, as English may not be their first language, but it’s still funny that they don’t proofread things like this).

Bottle - 750mL corked and caged. Bottle # 05153. Bottled Summer 2012. Dark copper ruby pour with a short, foamy tan head. Strong honey notes in the aroma along with malt, dark bread, soft caramel, toffee and hints of dark fruit. Taste is sweet with a bold honey taste, more dark bread notes, toasted malt, toffee, hints of dark fruit and soft alcohol. Body comes up a bit lacking. Kind of thin on the palate with sparse carbonation. Ends with more honey, soft alcohol, dark bread, toasted grains, malt notes, caramel, chewy toffee and faint fruit.
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 BBB63 (5423) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - APR 27, 2013
DLD 2012: Deep purplish brown hue with an okay head, not much lace. The beer has notes of prune and fig, Special B malts for sure along with rye bread and crystal malts, hint of tobacco and chocolate, biscuity and roast as well with a bit of flowery hop too. The mouth feel is sticky and smooth but I also found this a tad boozy. Overall I nice quad and drinkable.
