COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Apis IV pours dark brown with hues of orange and red, a thick creamy off-white head, and traditional Belgian lacing. The beer has notes of bread, dark plums, figs, molasses, and honey, balanced by light earthy and floral hop aromas. The beer starts out on the pallet with caramel, honey, dark fruits and a rounded floral bitterness, with spice notes from the Belgian yeast strain we use in this beer brewed in the Trappist Belgian Dark Strong Ale tradition. Look for a medium to heavy mouthfeel with high carbonation and slight alcohol warming. This beer is perfect for cellaring and its complex flavors will mellow out and blend overtime.

Pours dark brown with plum color hue, nice dense and lacy head. Great nose with big belgian candy and dark rock fruits behind yeasty spice and earth esters. Taste is bold and flavorful, lots of delicious candy sweetness thats not overdone, with notes of cocoa, molasses. Full bodied with moderate to carbonation. In all, i really dug this beer, and as a quad it hits all the typical notes but with great emphasis and flavor. For whatever reason the flavors and aromas remind me of late fall - lots of spice and caramel character, as well as warmth.

12 oz. bottle, about 2 months since bottling. Pours a beautiful, dark, ruby color, with a medium, off-white, bubbly head. The nose is raisins, caramelized sugar, anise, plums, bittersweet chocolate, and some light hickory smoke and pine sap. Sweet and sugary flavor, with a light bitterness that leads to a dry finish. Medium to heavy body, somehow effervescent but not fizzy, velvety, and a little acidic and harsh. This is a lovely, aromatic, complex, and aggressive beer. Very sharp and rough in its youth; I could see some age smoothing off the edges.

Woody amber mahogany body, with an ok head. Not much aroma, but the body is sugary and characterized by watered down esters accompanied by candi malt.

Honey aroma with some caramel background. Not as strong as I was expecting. Pours brown with a puffy white head that fades moderately slow. Taste is malty. Good Belgian yeast flavor, little honey flavor. The malt is caramel a bit but mostly just a candy sugarness. Light bit of bitter, tiny bit cloying. Good thick Body. Was hoping for more malt complexity.

Bottle. Dark fruit aroma with notes of Candi sugar, Belgian yeast and honey. Pours dark caramel colored with a thin tan head with no retention and minimal lacing. Starts with sweet dark fruit flavors with Candi sugar. Finishes smooth with some spicy Belgian yeast and just a touch of honey. Excellent quad!

Still, even toned brown black, with a skim of dense tan head. Aroma is light candi sugar, and taste is same, with grape and cola soda notes, but it's not overly sweet at all. $3.79/12 oz ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sampled at GABF 2015. In the tasting glass dark brown with a tan head. Nose of dark ripe fruit and molasses. Medium to full body. Creamy mouth feel. Flavor is rich caramel malts and raisins and other dark fruit. Finishes sweet. Pretty darn good.

UPDATED: NOV 28, 2015 Shared 750 ml. bottle. Reddish brown color, small beige head with very short retention and almost no lacing. Aroma has a bit of malt, bread, caramel, and honey. Tastes a bit sweet; the honey is quite noticeable. Some malt and alcohol as well, but not enough to balance the sweetness of the honey.

Aroma: dominated by honey; Appearance: chocolate brown with full head and good lacing; Taste: one dimension, which is honey. Very sweet, no complexity. Honey also had a slight twang; Palate: medium body, creamy texture, average carbonation. Finish was a honey aftertaste, not great; Overall: disappointing. Will not get again due to cloying honey flavor.

Bottle:   Ruby, thin spritzy light beige head, spotty lacing.   Sweet honey and malty breadiness on the nose.   Bready up front, malty, fairly sweet but not cloying.   Very light for a Quad at 8.7%, and not all that musty or barnish.   No real dark pitted fruit either.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Finishes very basic, sweet breadines, a little honey sweetness, and thats about it.   Not complex at all, and certainly smaller than most other Quads.   Despite nothing being off, its pretty boring.
