Aromas of dark fruits, vanilla, and Bourbon seep off of False Summit from a milk chocolate head. The palate hits with notes of plums, dark cherries, bourbon, oak, and vanilla with a medium body to heavy body. As the beer warms notes of caramel, oak, and dark candi sugar become more prevalent. False Summit is a beer to drink while mapping out your next adventure and should help motivate you to always keep moving to the top. Aged in Breckenridge Distillery Bourbon Barrels.

Poured from a bottle. Very deep velvety red color, almost purple. Smell is based around bourbon with some tartness from dark fruit catching for me. Taste is crisp with cherry and grape notes. Feel is pretty smooth with light carbonation and a noticeable alcohol heat on the finish. Overall solid quad. Flavor improves as the beer warms.

Deep dark amber/mahogany with a very thin off white head. Stupid aroma of raisins and bourbon and brown sugar and vanilla and plums. Smooth flavor with a huge palate of boozy raisin/plum tones with some Belgian dark malts, bourbon, vanilla and oak, Finishing with some sweet dark fruitiness and a little more bourbon. Amaze balls.

Bottle. Pours a medium brown with garnet highlights and a shallow, off-white, creamy fine-grained head. Nose is vanilla, caramel, bourbon, toffee, chocolate, and fig -- incredibly appetizing if youíre into the sweet stuff. Smooth and sweet on the palate; thereís more fruit (I definitely get the black cherry), toffee, vanilla, and a decent amount of bourbon booziness. Itís not too heavy, but itís definitely got some heft to it. Finish is a little hot; I also just want more body on the mouthfeel, itís a little thin. That said, itís pretty damned good.

Draft at Big Wood 2014. Amazingly dry for a quad. Coconut and sunscreen (Hawaiian tropic). Dark fruit and dry oak. Pretty fall ruby pour. Boozy.

On tap at Brouwerís Cafe for Big Wood 2014, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma is huge on the bourbon barrels, with loads of booze, followed by brown sugar and dark fruits. Flavour is very rich and complex, with bourbon barrels, vanilla, brown sugar, dark fruits, green apple and caramel. Very elegant and balanced - the barrels, though overtaking on the nose - donít dominate too much, but rather accentuate the base beer. Excellent quad.

Draft at Big Wood 2014 at Brouwerís. Heavy black-brown ruby, small ring. Slight alc aroma, dark cherry. Full round fruit, some coconut, alc. Barrel fruit, odd somehow but no big flaws.

Draft - Sweet sugars and lots of plum. Deep maroon with a small beige head. Green apple and plum, slight wood and sweet barrel notes. Nice and light for what it is.

Deep maroon with surprising clarity and ruby highlights below a fuzzy brown sugar head. Aroma is decadent and sweet -- grape, raisin, maple, vanilla, booze. In the flavor things are more dry and complex, balancing raisin, fig and grape with crusty raisin bread, vanilla, oak and, finally, brown sugar-soaked bourbon. Taken together, this is one of the best bourbon-barrel quads Iíve had. The vanilla of the wood comes through in a beautiful way and the bourbon flavor is kept to a minimum, just an accent for the dark fruits. Superb.
