Aromas of dark fruits, vanilla, and Bourbon seep off of False Summit from a milk chocolate head. The palate hits with notes of plums, dark cherries, bourbon, oak, and vanilla with a medium body to heavy body. As the beer warms notes of caramel, oak, and dark candi sugar become more prevalent. False Summit is a beer to drink while mapping out your next adventure and should help motivate you to always keep moving to the top. Aged in Breckenridge Distillery Bourbon Barrels.

On tap at Brouwerís Cafe for Big Wood 2014, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma is huge on the bourbon barrels, with loads of booze, followed by brown sugar and dark fruits. Flavour is very rich and complex, with bourbon barrels, vanilla, brown sugar, dark fruits, green apple and caramel. Very elegant and balanced - the barrels, though overtaking on the nose - donít dominate too much, but rather accentuate the base beer. Excellent quad.

Draft at Big Wood 2014 at Brouwerís. Heavy black-brown ruby, small ring. Slight alc aroma, dark cherry. Full round fruit, some coconut, alc. Barrel fruit, odd somehow but no big flaws.

Draft - Sweet sugars and lots of plum. Deep maroon with a small beige head. Green apple and plum, slight wood and sweet barrel notes. Nice and light for what it is.

Deep maroon with surprising clarity and ruby highlights below a fuzzy brown sugar head. Aroma is decadent and sweet -- grape, raisin, maple, vanilla, booze. In the flavor things are more dry and complex, balancing raisin, fig and grape with crusty raisin bread, vanilla, oak and, finally, brown sugar-soaked bourbon. Taken together, this is one of the best bourbon-barrel quads Iíve had. The vanilla of the wood comes through in a beautiful way and the bourbon flavor is kept to a minimum, just an accent for the dark fruits. Superb.

This beer just does it for me. Iíve been a beer lover for many years and enjoy all different types. This is a strong brew but isnít over bearing. Something about it just makes me happy.

Multiple tastings. Pours a thin beige head, over dark amber (SRM 15) body......nose is light Bourbon, cocoa, chocolate, light vanilla, dried fruit tones, minimal hops.....tastes of Bourbon, raisin, plum, light vanilla, brown sugar, hints of allspice, finishes with moderate bitterness.....mouth feel, light of medium body, alcohol warmth present, minimal acidity. This is an American Abt/Quad, but is delicately balanced, with the whiskey barrel adding nuances without dominating, but layering in where often various spice tones occur. BJCP 8/3/15/4/8

Sampled at ESBLS. Dark brown with a creamy beige head that does not fall. This beer is fruity and pleasant, especially for the ABV. Creamy and malty with all kinds of fruit. Dark fruit, plums. Interesting wood. A little heat but just a little. Amazingly easy to drink.

This is by far the best beer I have ever had. The subtle hints of oak and cherry make this a very smooth beer. Itís not hoppy and in my experience most beverages with this high of alcohol content, the alcohol tends to be overbearing but not with False Summit. Extraordinary beer! I do wish we could get it in the Seattle area.

2013 bottle. Pours a deep dark brown with a large foamy tan head that lingers. Huge aroma, sweet and woody, of brown sugar, malt, caramel, oak, bourbon, dark fruits. Big taste, woody bourbon, almost sour dark fruits, malt, caramel. Lingering bourbon and sour cherries that finishes a little watery. Very interesting quad, well-balanced.
