Much like the "sweet light crude oil" from the eastern plains of Colorado this beer pours a deep black with a tantalizing off-white head. Aromatics of sweet malt and bourbon envelope the nose like the sunset of the eastern plains. The malt profile continues through the palate from beginning to end with subtle hints of chocolate, coffee, and of course bourbon. This is a true beer for the malt and bourbon lovers alike.

On tap poured a deep black hue w/ a large burnt-brown frothy slowly diminishing head. Bold aromas of whiskey, caramel, chocolate, and vanilla. Initial flavor is light sweet and finishes with a light acidic roast. Taste is roasted malt, whiskey, caramel, chocolate, and vanilla. Full bodied, creamy texture, and soft carbonation.

Sampled at GABF 2015. In the tasting glass pitch black with a nice tan foam cap. Nose of bourbon greets you but then there is chocolate and vanilla. Medium plus body, and the flavor is chocolate, vanilla and a little citrus. Bourbon in the bitter finish. Would be a great beer i think if there was not so much booze, but it is hard to get past that.

Bottle:   Black, moderate frothy brown head, so-so lacing.   Moderate roasted malt nose, graham cracker, touch of barrel aging.   Fairly smooth, almost silky, has a very slight dry backside.   A little alcohol burn, barrel aging is on the softer side.   Has a little citrusy bit right off the start, reminds me a bit of pink grapefruit.   Fairly full bodied.   Finishes roasty, graham cracker, soft bourbon, pink grapefruit, with a little bit of a dry alcohol burn.   Not as barrel aged as I would hope for, but certainly a big beer.   Fairly solid.

Bottle, Boise imperial stout tasting via JohnGalt1 – thanks Toby! Pours a deep dark brown with a small ring of beige head. Pleasant aroma of heavy roast, cocoa, espresso, and a light bourbon barrel presence. Smooth and silky, well rounded layer of flavors. Especially the silky chocolate. Moderate roast, minimal bitters as the bourbon barrel sweetness swirls through the glass. Some vanilla. Very good.

Bottle. Deep black, the viscosity of milk. One finger of big bubbles the color of brown sugar. Nose: cocoa powder, fig, a touch of smoke and espresso. Lots of caramel. The vanilla and smoky oak in the barrels add a lot of sweetness. Sweet and tangy flavor, too. A touch of licorice, lots of caramel, a hint of cocoa. Raisins. Ethanol fills the nose. A smooth blend. The medium-light body is a touch thin. Mild, tingly carbonation. Some alcohol burn in the nose, but very low for 11 percent. Very smooth. Overall, more like a bourbon-aged stout, than an imperial stout. It’s also the rare beer that’s better cold -- booze comes out a lot as it warms.

On tap at Chuck’s, pours black with a very small tan head. Nose brings out huge notes of bourbon upfront, followed by vanilla and cocoa. Flavour is all bourbon and booze upfront, with a huge amount of heat and bourbon, with secondary notes of vanilla and cocoa. Way too boozy and bourbony but it works in small amounts. Very good for what it is.

A little hot like I like it. Bourbon, vanilla, wood & cocoa. Heavy malt but balanced with alcohol enough to make this very enjoyable. Tasted at 55F.
