COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Much like the "sweet light crude oil" from the eastern plains of Colorado this beer pours a deep black with a tantalizing off-white head. Aromatics of sweet malt and bourbon envelope the nose like the sunset of the eastern plains. The malt profile continues through the palate from beginning to end with subtle hints of chocolate, coffee, and of course bourbon. This is a true beer for the malt and bourbon lovers alike.

On tap poured a deep black hue w/ a large burnt-brown frothy slowly diminishing head. Bold aromas of whiskey, caramel, chocolate, and vanilla. Initial flavor is light sweet and finishes with a light acidic roast. Taste is roasted malt, whiskey, caramel, chocolate, and vanilla. Full bodied, creamy texture, and soft carbonation.

750 ml, corked and caged bottle. Bottled 12/10/15. Opaque, thin tan head, thin lace.
Aroma is dark roasted malt, vanilla, chocolate, prune. Bourbon is hiding in the background with the oak.
Flavor is sweet and milky up front, followed by light chocolate, smoke, coffee. Bourbon is there in small doses, mostly butterscotch and caramel.
Too sweet and not enough bourbon character. ABV is well hidden, so, bonus points for that.

750 ml bottle. Blackish with a big tan head that has good retention. The aroma is medium in strength with chocolate malts, vanilla and whiskey. The taste is a bit too sweet with milk chocolate, mocha, saccharine, and vanilla. Perhaps a trace of whiskey on the back end, but that is mostly an aromatic. The palate is full and creamy. Finishes long and sweet. Overall: I was expecting this to be a bit m boozy, but it wasn’t. So, well done there. Sweetness and a lack of complexity keep this from being a 4.0 beer. None the less its a decent RIS at a decent price($13.00) and that makes it a good value.

Sampled at ESBLS. Light eating black. A fruity aroma is a surprise. Bourbon under it and that leads the flavor. Big bourbon flavor. Roast and big malts. Citrus under all of that. Chocolate, earth, coffee, tobacco. Very good stuff.

Bottle sample @ RBBWG 2016, thanks Ben. Anno 2013, bottle# 04289. Bottled 12.18.2013.

Bottle at RBBWG 2016 in Antwerpen. Clear, very dark red to black with a tan to brown head. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity aroma of caramel, dark chocolate, dark ripe fruits and some vanilla. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity and minimally roasty taste of dark chocolate, some coffee, caramel, dark ripe fruits and vanilla, followed by a short, slightly bitter, minimally roasty finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel. Very nice!

Thank you for sharing Beerlover_Ben! 750 ml. bottle sampled @ RBBWG V. 2013 Vintage. Black with a mocha head. Nose is vinous coffee, herbal burned malts, coffee grounds, thick roasted malts, molasses & more vinous roast. Warming molasses, licorice, burned herbal malts, coffee grounds, light vinous streak, sugar, licorice herbs,… Body feels thinned. I don’t think that aging improved it, it is a good beer but compares unfavourably to other big USA Bourbon BA RIS’s.

Thick black body. Sweet, toffee like chocolate. raisin, cake, christmas pudding. Not as sticky heavy as expected, but alcoholic, strong alcohol. Nice beer, great to try. (Sampled during RBBWG 2016)
