COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Much like the "sweet light crude oil" from the eastern plains of Colorado this beer pours a deep black with a tantalizing off-white head. Aromatics of sweet malt and bourbon envelope the nose like the sunset of the eastern plains. The malt profile continues through the palate from beginning to end with subtle hints of chocolate, coffee, and of course bourbon. This is a true beer for the malt and bourbon lovers alike.

On tap poured a deep black hue w/ a large burnt-brown frothy slowly diminishing head. Bold aromas of whiskey, caramel, chocolate, and vanilla. Initial flavor is light sweet and finishes with a light acidic roast. Taste is roasted malt, whiskey, caramel, chocolate, and vanilla. Full bodied, creamy texture, and soft carbonation.

(750ml bottle thanks to Errlski) cloudy very dark brown, wispy dark tan head. Nose of tobacco, brown sugar, molasses, bit meaty. Taste of light alcohol, meaty, bit of barrel but not very bourbony, plum, tobacco, roast, super complex. Metallic at the beginning which rounded out. Salty finish detracts.

Black pour with a tan head. Mild booze and bourbon aromas. Dark chocolate, smoke, oak, and caramel. Some coffee, lots of roasted malt, and very light vanilla. The flavor is quite roast and smoke forward. Lightly boozy, some bourbon, and hints of vanilla. A bit of dark chocolate, coffee, and a little bit of caramel sweetness.

Big, bold dark brown pour, chocolate brown head. Huge bourbon notes, fudge, some roast, vanilla, chocolate cupcakes, oak. Really tasty stuff.

Bottle courtesy of someone at the hotel after TAP-NY. It probably wasn’t John, but since he loves the glory, we’ll say it was him. Pours a deep black with a thin white to beige head. Sweet roast, chocolate, cocoa on the nose. Soft and roasty, chewy malt. Long bourbon on the finish, with a bit of alcohol peeking through.

750 ml. bottle. pours black with a creamy beige head. The bourbon stands out and dominate the brew, but nots of chocolate and coffee are there. You get a little bit of the alcohol on the finish followed by more bourbon.

750 ml. corked and caged bottle. Pours a thick, well retained beige head, with extensive lacing, over a black brown (SRM 38) body....nose is light bourbon, heavy chocolate, coffee, plum, raisin, molasses.....taste is light coffee, heavy chocolate, plum, bourbon hints, light vanilla, brown sugar, with light sweetness, until the coffee hop bitterness on the finish....mouth feel thick, slightly chewy, sticky, lightly astringent, carbonation adds a light acid tingle. This is a rich, thick, heavy, complex creation. The Bourbon barrels were used with a light hand and, as such, add depth, but not domination. The only missing tone was a bit of umami, but the Bourbon makes up for it. BJCP 9/3/16/4/8

Appearance: Pours near black with a tan head that subsides to a ring.

Aroma: Bourbon, wood, roasted coffee.

Taste: Bourbon greatness, smoked roasted malt, light banana esters.

Mouthfeel: Not as thick as you’d think an 11% impy would be. Very rounded and smooth. Modest carbonation.

Overall: Well executed, tasty and ready to drink now. Does not drink like a beer thats nearing Monster Imperial Stout territory.

At Avery Strong Ale Fest 2013--inky black with a thin, light khaki head. Sweet and dark roasty nose with hoppy yet boozy bourbon notes and lowfat soy sauce. Flavor is equally dark and sweet and roasty like the nose, with some chocolate and light oak notes mixed with a subtle yet annoying soy sauce flavor. Finishes kinda bourbony.

Sweet vanilla-bourbon nose with a touch of alcohol. Way to smooth and drinkable for 11%! Quite well crafted. Flavor is big on chocolate. Certainly bourbon barrel is there, but not dominating. Ridiculously balanced and finishes drier than anticipated.

Bottle at a bottle share. Pours a near black color. Nose is filled with bourbon, which is a great first impression. Some great roasting elements in there, and it ends up being very smooth. Good brew.
