COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer pours a deep dark brown with a snow-white head. Aroma notes of vanilla, cinnamon, and sweet milk hit the nose bringing up images of the delicious Mexican drink this beer is styled after. The beer hits the palate with vanilla, sweet chocolate malts, and a hint of cinnamon; all with a medium body and good balancing hop bitterness.

750 ml. bottle from a beer club membership. Pours almost black with a tan head. Some sweetness on the nose blended with the roasted malts. I did not detect any cinnamon which is great. Light hoppy finish. Good one.

Bottle from a trader in Colorado, cola in color and tan head. Aroma is some vanilla and malt, rather weak. Taste is a bit of vanilla and chocolate, light cinnamon spice, quite a let down. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

At Avery Strong Ale Fest 2013--black hued pour with a thin cap head. Funky dark malty aroma that doesn’t come together really well. Nose kinda has some deep roastiness with some plastic chemical tone, soy sauce, and earthy hops. Flavor is roasty and dark, almost sweet if not for the almost immediate drying roast and burnt toast flavor, with an earthy hop bitterness and something chemical I can’t put my finger on.

Bottle - 750mL corked and caged. Number 01949. Vintage from Winter 2012. Pours black with a short tan head. Aroma is sweet with vanilla, soft cinnamon, roasted malt, milk chocolate and soft spice. Taste is rich chocolate, creamy vanilla, cinnamon, soft spice, roasted malt and cream cake. Body is medium with a moderate, creamy carbonation. Ends with more cinnamon, rich vanilla, brownies, chocolate and roasted malt. Thought this was delicious!

Dark brown with a white head. Aroma and flavor is roasted with sweet notes of chocolate, vanilla and cinnamon. Medium body with a smoky finish. Not as sweet as I expected, but still pretty tasty.

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is moderately malty (chocolate / cocoa powder, roasted grain), lightly hoppy (flowers), with a note of vanilla. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium to full body, watery/creamy texture, lively/soft carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic. A very simple beer, but thankfully without off notes. The aroma is almost nothing but chocolate and vanilla, with only minor roast and hops. Can’t detect the cinnamon at all (don’t expect a "holiday spice beer" sort of nose, the spice is virtually non-existent). The lactose likely contributes to the flavor balance being too sweet, but it’s still drinkable, not goopy-syrupy-cloying. All in all it’s an ok rendition, but not worth its somewhat steep price tag.

The hot chocolate of beer. Pours a dark opaque with a tan head that does not linger. Aroma is chocolate, some spice notes, and a little alcohol smell. Taste is huge chocolate taste with the complementary vanilla undertones. A little cinnamon peaks through, but I'd expected a bit more spice. Finish is silky, smooth, and sweet; its creaminess also hangs on a bit. Overall very different. Would recommend as a "dessert beer." ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

"You remember drinkin’ horchata" - I don’t remember the next line of that song, but it is now going to be stuck in my head the rest of the night - nearly black, ruby tint on the edges, fizzy lace - looks like cola - nose is as advertised - milk sugar sweetness, vanilla, lots of cinnamon - a little bit of dark malt char and alcohol remind you it’s beer - medium soft carbonation in the mouth - texture is a little watery and body is a little thin for something so.strong - spicy cinnamon up front, followed by moderate vanilla sweetness, tempered by some tartness and acidity (acidity gets a little sharp on the tail end, though) - finish is spicy and medium sweet - a bit thin, and not nearly as interesting or complex as I was hoping.
