BAR-BAR is an especially massive version of our Big Bad Barleywine Ale. It is a colossal and complex beer bursting with malt, the sweetness is balanced by hops, the higher gravity warms the soul. When aged in bourbon barrels for 6 months, it picks up aromas and flavors of toffee, caramel, vanilla, toasty oak and the nose of bourbon. A properly stored barleywine ale can be enjoyed years after originally bottled, gaining additional complexity and nuance with the passage of time. HAVE A BLAST!!

Bottle at Muckfest VI. Hazy amber to copper pour with a medium beige head. Nose of malt, caramel, bourbon and slight fruit. Sweet malt and caramel flavor with some warm bourbon before a sweet toffee finish.

On draught at the brewpub, this is the November selection in Elevator’s "PHD" program, and my 100th Elevator beer. The beer pours a slightly hazy dark brownish-amber color with a medium thin light beige head that recedes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma is oaky with bourbon, malt and fruit notes. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky vanilla, bourbon, roast malt and fruit. The finish is oaky with a bourbon and malt aftertaste. Solid beer all around.

Pours a reddish brown color with a pretty good size head. Aroma is vanilla, caramel, and brown sugar, and bourbon. Flavor is very sweet but the alcohol and bitterness stand up to the sweetness. Very balanced for how big this beer actually is. I need to find some more of this around town.

750 ml wax capped bottle. Served in a DFH snifter, the beer pours a slightly hazy orange/amber color with about an inch creamy off-white head. Head retention is excellent, and there’s a good amount of lacing. Aroma is nice and malty, it smells like vanilla, caramel, toffee, bourbon and oak. I think the brew tastes pretty much just like the aroma, but there’s also a little bit of dark fruit noticeable. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it’s slick and creamy with a moderate amount of carbonation. I think it’s a good barrel-aged barleywine, definitely worth trying if you like the sweeter tasting brews. Hopefully Elevator will bottle more of this in the future. $12.99 a bottle.

750 ml bottle. Pours a translucent amber with a beige head. Good lacing. Vanilla and oak in the aroma as well as some big bourbon in the nose and the taste. Thick and sweet. Nice stuff. Exceeded expectations for sure!

Aroma: in your face vanilla and caramel. Appearance: Dark honey color with 1 finger head. Taste: Sweet caramel vanilla, may be too sweet for some. Palate: Good mouth feel and balanced carbonation. Overall: Color is much darker from the bottle than what I have seen from a tap. Very limited distribution. My understanding is only 30 cases distributed in Ohio. Worth trying if you can get the opportunity. Looking forward to see how well it ages.

Bottle pours a nice garnet color with a thin white head, looks creamy with a swirl and leaves nice lacing. Aroma is weak, only faint hints of buttery caramel and a bit of barrel with some sweet bourbon. Taste is great, lots of complexity, up front with caramel and toffee sweetness, slightly buttery, dark fruit, toasty oak, Loads of. vanilla and bourbon, very sweet but a nice slight bitterness at the end to keep it from being cloying. No hint of the 12% abv. good brew 12.99 for a 750ml
