COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark in color with a fruity complexity, this assertive ale has a low hop bitterness and aroma. Roasted malt and an overall creamy character disguise a deceptive kick, featuring 9% ABV and 24 IBU.

On tap as part of the PhD program. Dark brown color with a thick tan head that...looks...almost...nitro(?). Hmmm...aroma is a ton of roasted malt, chocolate and some Belgian spicy yeast. Flavor is bananas and roast before an ashy coffee finish. C’mon guys, just call it a Belgian stout. As it is though, I liked it much more than I expected thanks to the style name.

Draft Nitro. Poured a clear dark brown color with an average creamy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy tart chocolate malt and yeast aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy dark chocolate bitter flavor with a medium bitter finish of moderate to long duration. This is a very drinkable beer and my expectations where exceeded.

Dark brown body; initially creamy head that eventually disappears; nitrogen. Pretty distincly Belgian aroma. Flavor - nutty, chocolatey, slightly roasty. Not bad at all, although I feel the nitrogen holds it back. A little bit watery. Served in an altbier glass for some reason. Pretty strong abv. I’m waiting until April when the BA barley wine comes back.

UPDATED: MAR 30, 2010 On draught at the brewpub, this is the January selection in Elevator’s "PHD" program. The beer pours dark brown with a medium thick and creamy beige head that diminishes slowly. Sticky patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, spices and yeast. Medium, smooth body with flavors of malt, spices, hops and yeast. The finish is clean and spicy with a mild spice and fruit aftertaste. Overall an interesting and enjoyable brew, whatever it is they were going for.
