Sample at the brewpub - Poured black with a short white head and minimal lacing. Aromas of toasted malts and nuts. Some notes of chocolate come out in the flavor and more of the roasted malts and nut flavor as well. Body is rather thin and was disappointing after the aroma.

Pours inky black with very thin white head. Nose is rather clean with mild smoky overtones. The flavor is sweet, slightly smoky, and tends towards dark fruit. No hops evident but that’s OK for this style

Pours black with no head. Very big sweet malty taste. Nothing else in the beer stands out over the sweetness. Average.

Not a good porter. It doesnt have a strong enough malt presence, and the ending bitterness falls flat of being a good hop distinction.

bluemeow76 (693) - Lewis Center, Ohio, USA - JUN 18, 2004
Pours a very dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is nutty and warm. It feels a little thin in your mouth, the aroma gets you ready for a full thick taste, and it doesn’t deliver. Average for a porter.

Dogbrick (4842) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JUN 6, 2003
Pours an opaque brownish-black color with a thin beige head. Aroma of malt and nuts. Medium-bodied, and I was struck by a cinnamon flavor out of nowhere which made this an interesting Porter to say the least. Behnid the cinnamon were the more expected flavors of chocolate and malt. Finish still had some cinnamon, along with light hops and nuts. Overall pretty good, and I like the name too.

From notes. Tastes a little like kerosene. And fairly watery. Some chocolate and burnt flavors but nothing special. Similar to Barrelhouse in flavor but weaker overall.

This beer poured a very dark amber/garnet color. Medium tan head that didn’t hold with little lace. Slight malt aroma. A sweet flavor, but couldn’t place it, probably hindered by the mild aroma. A fairly light body for a porter. Interesting finish to it. Really can’t recommend this as a porter unless you prefer them lighter.
