Fevernova (28), Ohio, USA Nov 1, 2009 22 oz bottle -- Pours copper-brown with a white head. Heavy roast character. Light but not watery, crisp with a toasted bitter finish. JaBier (1130), Capital City, Ohio, USA Aug 30, 2009 Bonus beer sampled at the Weyerbacher tasting at Blacklick Wine & Spirits on 8/28/09. As many times as I’ve been to the Elevator restaurant, this is my first time trying this brew. Dark brown pour with a thin tan head. Aroma of dark malt and lager yeast. Lager yeast flavor with some caramel and a slightly bitter finish. Sort of watery and not as good as I’d heard. Now I don’t feel so bad about all my visits to the restaurant when I passed this one up for the doppelbock. JCB (1713), Durham, North Carolina, USA Aug 21, 2009 Bomber from BeerVirgin72 - thanks, Dawn! Nice dark pour with a very thick, frothy head. Some malt and mild smoke in the nose, but the flavor is dominated by tart fruits and yeasty, bready flavors. Maybe my bottle was slightly off, because I don’t get any of the toasty malts I’d expected. Somehow, though, not bad. aobecksy (661), Middle of no where, Ohio, USA Jul 23, 2009 Nice and thick looking, not disappating in lace or head. But disappointing thin structure, with a burnt finish. phishpond417 (1861), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jul 17, 2009 I can see why this won the bronze and not the gold. Pours a dark brown colour, slightly translucent with a full creamy beige head. Aroma is somewhat nutty, hint of smoke and a little bread. Taste is slightly metallicy with some chocolate and raisin notes. shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Jul 11, 2009 July 17-19, 2008: ElevatorDark Horse is acutally a decent lager from an average brewery. I like the roasted grains in the aroma and flavor. It is there, but not overdone. This beer is very dark gold-brown with no head and a medium-light body. It is just different enough to be slightly interesting.
Draught sample at The CI in Athens, Ohio during Ohio Brew Week 2008. Rating #22 for this beer.
BeerBelcher (930), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jul 5, 2009 I had this on-tap at the Huntington Field ball-park in Columbus. While I was pleased to find an alternative to Bud Light, I can’t say this beer is anything to get too excited about. Dark-brown body, light frothy head. Minimal aroma. Flavor was Newcastle-ish; some light toffee roastiness accompanied by wateriness. Not bad, but hardly terrific. Pipper (225), Ohio, USA Jun 14, 2009 On tap at the Elevatory Brewery and Draught Haus. First try was a part of a pint that was the end of the keg. Pours a light copper color with an initially solid 2 finger head. Aroma is stronger and more complex than the taste, a big pet peeve of mine in beer. Wet dog/floral aroma with pretty boring coffee water taste. Very poundable due to these characteristics. After the first minute the head completely died which made sense since the rest of the beer was very flat and pretty lack luster.
