COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
You have just picked up a Winner. Dark Horse Lager came from behind in a field of 2,832 to win a BRONZE MEDAL* at the Great American Beer Festival. This very well-balenced, deep copper brown lager has a great lightly hopped character with drinkability that leaves you wanting another.

Nice and thick looking, not disappating in lace or head. But disappointing thin structure, with a burnt finish.

12 ounce bottle pours an amber brown color with aromas of light roast, caramel, toast and bread. Flavors were the same light roast in the aftertaste, decent beer overall.

3/4/13. 12oz bottle found randomly in a tub in the RBWG aftermath... thanks, whoever! Clear ruby red brown pour with a small khaki head that doesn’t last. Light toasted bread and dough aroma with touches of caramel and very light coffee. Nicely balanced toasty malt flavor with a bit of astrigency and caramel. Actually nice for what it is.

Draft: Pors clear, red-brown, short, off-white head. Scent is chocolate, caramel-cola. Taste is much the same with a soft bittering. Nice.

12 oz bottle at an in-laws wedding. Pours a dark amber color with a creamy medium sized beige head. Nose has some caramel malt, some soapy notes and a light, but strange off note. Flavor is thin caramel, almost like caramel water, a light bready note, some grainy notes and light hops. Nothing too bad, just nothing very exciting either. At least I found a tick at a wedding.

Pint draught from brewpub. Appearance is dark copper color with quickly dissipating, beige head. Aroma is fairly mild with bread, caramel, and malty sweetness the main notes. Taste is similar with bready and caramel flavors, sweet malts, and next to zero bitterness. Palate is medium-bodied, nice and soft texture, soft carbonation, and a short, sweet finish.

12 oz bottle. Dark garnet; head dissipates quickly into utter nonexistence. Dark caramel and yeast aroma. Taste is sweet, caramel, bready; almost no bitterness at all in the finish. Medium thickness; a bit sticky on the lips. Reminds me of a dunkel; this beer is not my thing.

I had no idea there was a style here called American Dark Lager. 12oz bottle scooped up in Columbus. Cherry brown body, thin oily beige head. Sweet caramel chocolate aroma. This is a Dunkel all the way, or at least a Schwarzbier. Pretty decent, not mindblowing, sort of has a soapy bite to it for a lager. Overall pretty enjoyable offering.

On tap at the brewpub. Deep amber color with a sticky thin beige head. Light sweet caramel nose. Sweet beer with some toasted grains, pit fruit and raisens. Dark brown sugar and a clean finish. Nothing wrong with this beer but not that interesting.
