2.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Pipper (325) - Ohio, USA - JUN 14, 2009
On tap at Elevator Brewery and Draught Haus in Columbus. Poured a natty light color with decent white head. Full-on flowers in aroma. Very slight floral hops in the flavor, very slight bitterness with decent lacing. Again suffers from the same flavored water taste as the Dark Horse Lager with a light bitter water taste.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 Darkover (1449) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - MAY 9, 2007
Amber color with a small creamy beige head that left plenty of lacing. Aroma of citrus hops. Flavor is very hoppy and bitter, but also has lots of sweet malts.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 OhioDad (2491) - Hilliard, Ohio, USA - APR 9, 2006
Sample at the brewpub - Pours mahogony with some ruby highlights somewhat cloudy with a tan head that stayed pretty well and laced the sides of the glass. Aroma is nice grapefruit hops and a touch of pine but you can also find a little of the malt beneath. Flavor is a nice balance of the bitter hops and the caramel malts. The bitter hops win out at the end though and leave you with a grapefruit aftertaste. Not bad!
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 ultraspank (867) - Dublin, Ohio, USA - MAR 16, 2006
Stopped in the other night with my sweetheart for a bite. Been wanting to hit this place for quite some time. My first question to our server was: "Do you have any of the Imperial IPA left over from last month?" When she replied that she did, I told her IPA was one of my favorite styles and that I’d like it in a room temp glass with a nice head. I wasn’t disappointed. The brew has an awesome aromatic presence with burnt spices accompanied with hints of caramel and dried fruit with an addition of pine and spruce. Ruby copper with orange highlights. The average tan frothy head has good retention and leaves decent lace. The brews flavor is of course hoppy, with a massive bitter and lingering burnt finish. A heavy acidity and citrus character is prominent. However, as the brew matures after warming and breathing, an outstanding depth cannot be denied. The full and soft body is very dry. Outstanding. PS., try the rock filet for dinner.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dogbrick (4842) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - FEB 7, 2006
This is the February selection in Elevator’s "MBA" program. Hazy dark amber color with a medium foamy beige head with pretty good retention. Minimal lacing. Nice aroma of citrusy hops with a light malt undertone. Medium-bodied with a strong hops character, sometimes piney sometimes citrusy. The hops bitterness is balanced a bit by sweet malt. The finish is lingeringly bitter with more citrusy hops. This beer is tasty if somewhat 2-dimensional. It’s nice to see Elevator making more of a foray into big beers, and this is a good entry.
