COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A modern interpretation of a colonial-style beer that Benjamin Franklin could have savored in his lifetime. It is a great tasting ale, which could best be described as a strong Scotch ale, or Imperial Brown.

UPDATED: JUN 17, 2010 On draught at the brewpub, this is the May selection in Elevator’s "PHD" program (as Poor Richard II). This beer pours a mostly clear dark reddish-brown color with a thin off-white head that diminishes to a film quickly. Minimal lacing on the glass. Aroma of dark malt, caramel and raisin. Medium body with a dark fruit and booze character that has notes of caramel malt and a touch of hops. The finish is warming alcohol and lingering malt. Pretty good overall.

Draft. Poured clear brown color with an average frothy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate toasted malt and earthy aroma. Medium body with smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium toasted sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish and smal alcohol burn of average duration. Very enjoyable brew

On tap at the brewpub. Darkest brown pour with a thin off-white head. Malty caramel aroma with a bit of cherry. Caramel malt flavor up front with a bit of fruit and a boozy finish. Pretty good scotch ale.
