3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 chriso (7065) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 7, 2011
On tap at Elevator Brewing Co, Columbus OH, March 2010. No ABV stated. The pick of the dozen Elevator beers I tried at this sitting (and I’m not usually a big Doppelbock fan). Very dark red/brown colour. Thin beige head. Excellent condition. Light chocolate aroma. Much more on the palate. Also roast coffee and lots of licorice. Had an almost Baltic Porter feel. Avoids the fat malt and soy sauce feel that I find in many Doppelbocks and don’t enjoy too much. Not too sticky either. Most enjoyable and satisfying.

On tap at Elevator. Dark brown pour, frothy white head. Aroma of sweet roasted nuts. Flavor was toast, caramel, malts. I liked this one ALMOST above all the others. But then, I am a dopple bock kinda gal!

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Pipper (325) - Ohio, USA - JUN 14, 2009
On tap at Elevator. Pours a dark brown color with dark coffee head and heavy lacing. Barbeque ash/sweet cola aroma and taste with a slightly warming alcohol presence in the after burn. Could do 2 or 3 in a sitting but I’d rather not and drink something more interesting.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 JaBier (3249) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - DEC 15, 2008
On tap at Elevator. Perfect name for this beer, since I have taken so friggin long to log this rating. Pours a dark brown with a 1 inch tan head. Aroma is very malty and caramelly, with some roasty character. Slight coffee and hop up front, then a ton of malt in the middle, with some more roasty hop on the back end. Not your typical doppelbock - more like a db and porter hybrid - but man this stuff is exquisite.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 joergen (14992) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - OCT 20, 2008

Dark brown coloured with a huge beige head.
Sweet aroma of fruits and dried fruits with nnotes of caramel.
Swet flavour of fruits, caramel and hops.
Hoppy finish.
Very hoppy for a doppelbock.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Rastacouere (5923) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 29, 2008
On tap @ Elevator. A deep brown lager displaying an impressively frothy off-white head. Quite dark in its malt character which seems to comprise a lot of caramel at first, but also an honest roasty background. unusual, but fitting. Very soft hops provide the softest attempt at balance, but otherwise, this is one sweet doppelbock, loaded with caramel, but also richly fruity, which makes it more complex than most. The alcohol warmth is considerable for a doppelbock and has the sweetness evolve more toward licorice and honeyed notes. Satisfying, but certainly not one I’d drink by the pint.
