A bigger cousin of the English Pale, India Pale Ales were originally brewed with extra alcohol and lots of hops, both of which served to preserve the beer on the long voyage from England to the colony. Dry hopped with a distinct floral essence.

Pours hazy copper with a beige head. Very good lacing. Aromas of sweet caramel malt with a hint of grapefruit. No discernible hop presence. Flavors are sweet grapefruit and caramel with a hint of pepper and a tingly hop burn. Sticky mouthfeel. This is an unusual IPA. Itís very malty--not much hoppiness. Itís enjoyable, but I think this should be categorized as a pale ale, not an IPA.

12 oz. bottle from Jungle Jimís International Market, Fairfield, OH (bottled July 27, 2015 and listed as 6.9% ABV). Dark orange pour with a frothy off-white head. Tropical fruit aroma. Moderately bitter hop taste of wet grass, soft grapefruit, and pine needles. Lingering bitter finish. A decent IPA.

Poured into a perfect pint. 3.75 A: Well hazed dark orange color. Two and a half fingers of frothy/creamy off-white head. Retention is good and plenty of lacing is left. 3.75 S: Sweet and citrusy. Orange and lemon really stand out. Bready yeast with caramel notes. Mildly floral. Focus is really the citrusy hops. 3.75 T: Tastes like the nose. Citrusy orange and lemon. Bready yeastiness. Decent neutral malt backbone with hints of caramel. 3.75 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Reasonably creamy and quite smooth. 3.75 D: Wasnít expecting much as Iíve never even heard of the brewery, but this turned out to be a pretty good beer. ★ 646 characters DavoleBomb, Sep 11, 2013

Bottle from the bald wizard. Many thanks for another Ohio tick. Pours Crimson Amber, thin off white head leaves no lacing. Minimal nose presempnt. Really have to pull out any sense of pine. Taste has mild bitterness, pine, toast. Medium body with an abrupt finish.

Draft at Cincinnati Beerfest. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have softer hops, grassy, some fruit character, toasted bready malts, mild, very little bitterness, not something I would do again.

UPDATED: AUG 11, 2015 Bottle from giant eagle. Nose is hop stank with bit of caramel. Sudsy. Light feel and hop fullness. Not overpowering though. Wee bit of spice in there. Hardly any sweetness to balance. Very dry. Not great but ok.
