3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled. A nearly black beer with an off-white head. Sweet malts in the nose with fruitiness and caramel. Sweet in the mouth too. A pretty decent depth of flavour although the sweetness dominates any roastiness. Itís certainly nice enough though.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle from Waitrose in Rickmansworth, Herts. Poured a dark ruby colour with no lasting head, kinda looked like a cola. Aroma of dried fruit and some light burnt malt. Oily flavour with grainy malt. Very light mouth feel. Finishes with some burnt sugar, cola and coffee. As I recall the cask version (if you can get a well kept example) is far nicer.

Part 1 of a 3 mild haul, yep - Iím on a mission - 50 by the year being out. Cheers Danyul, quite enjoyed this one particularly for the low abv, but milds do donít they, unless theyíre partisan when theyíre goldens. Bit thin, some choc.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Blackish brown beer with a reasonable head. The aroma is lightly roasted, and the flavour is bitter with good roastedness and some molasses. Overall a very nice mild.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Brown 500ml bottle, best before Feb 2008, drank April 2007.
Very surprised to see this in bottle form, and in London, so I bought two bottles.
Poured into a pint í Old Speckled Hení vase type glass.
The beer looked fantastic, deep ruby black with a fine biege head of foam.
The aroma is of roasted and toasted malts, they overpower anything and everything else that may be trying to get into the air.
The taste is fine, again the burnt malt flavours take over. This isnít delicate, this is a proud dark mild.
Sadly the mouthfel lets it down somewhat, not watery, but not as lasting or powerful as you would expect from the initial taste.
Glad I found it in bottle form, I must have a cask one again soon. One of the best dark milds around in the UK.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle at home in London. Pours clear, red-brown with a medium, creamy tan head. Some lightly toasted cocoa in the aroma. Light sweet flavor, some sweet, dark bread, faint roast and cocoa. Light bodied with fine, smooth carbonation. Lightly dry to finish, some mild ash and tobacco, light roast and cocoa, hints of burnt sugar. Itís alright.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark brown pour with red sparkles of light. Small tan head that slowly fades leaving behind it a small amount of lacing. Dates, molasses, brown sugar, vanilla, coffee and malt aromas. A bit more roasty in the mouth than I would have thought, but good. A milky smooth mouthfeel. An acrid bitterness that is like putting coins in the mouth, but not overly so. Decent drinker.

3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A good example of a true english mild. Excelent rosted malt flavour coming true in a smooth slightly sweet way. Careful hopping adds a little fruity edge.
