A traditional dark mild at 3.6% abv. The beer is well balanced with a full roast flavour. The use of Crystal malt and Roast Barley give a deep underlying characteristic flavour, which is balanced with Fuggles hops as the sole variety.

50 cL bottle. Pours dark golden brown with a small off-white head. Slight butterish and roasted malt aroma. Light spiced too. Mild roasted malt flavour with a hint of liqourice and dark breadish notes, subdued dried fruit note too. Mild finish with a light roasted malt base and a nice level of bitterness to provide a good counterbalance.

Bottle at home in London. Pours clear, red-brown with a medium, creamy tan head. Some lightly toasted cocoa in the aroma. Light sweet flavor, some sweet, dark bread, faint roast and cocoa. Light bodied with fine, smooth carbonation. Lightly dry to finish, some mild ash and tobacco, light roast and cocoa, hints of burnt sugar. It’s alright.

Bottled (BB 07/2009)
Very dark ruby color, good tan head. Coffee, prune and caramel in the nose. Light palate, but not that light than expected from 3.6 % beer. Roasted flavor, slightly caramelly - very dunkel-like brew. Oily mouthfeel giving sort of low alcohol feeling.

Bottled, 500ml, pasteurised, from Tesco, Banbury. Dark brown with tan head. Initial fizz which is really odd for a mild, cardboardy CO2 flavour. After settling down there is a little fruitiness with a roasted nut note too, but everything is a little thin and tired. I certainly prefer the cask.
