Bottle. Blackish brown beer with a reasonable head. The aroma is lightly roasted, and the flavour is bitter with good roastedness and some molasses. Overall a very nice mild.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle. Dark brown with a very thin fading light brown head. Nose is licorice and then light hoppy grass notes. Bit of licorice in the mouth, but ultimately quite thin. Finishes with a metallic zing, but nothing lasting and memorable.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Lovely dark brown appearance with a creamy coffee head. Nice floral/roasted malt smell and initial taste, but hints of tobacco and roasted coffee quickly disappear. Like a porter-lite in every way. Very sessionable. Don’t have it too cold.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
A dark crystal clear ale, with a thick pale brown creamy smooth head. The strength of this beer is all that lets it down, the flavours and aromas of roasted malt, chocolate and hops are powerful and inviting however there just seems to be some lack in power. It makes for a pleasant ale but not a session beer.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle from Waitrose in Rickmansworth, Herts. Poured a dark ruby colour with no lasting head, kinda looked like a cola. Aroma of dried fruit and some light burnt malt. Oily flavour with grainy malt. Very light mouth feel. Finishes with some burnt sugar, cola and coffee. As I recall the cask version (if you can get a well kept example) is far nicer.

Part 1 of a 3 mild haul, yep - I’m on a mission - 50 by the year being out. Cheers Danyul, quite enjoyed this one particularly for the low abv, but milds do don’t they, unless they’re partisan when they’re goldens. Bit thin, some choc.
