3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 AshtonMcCobb (935) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - MAR 9, 2012
On tap @ the Haymarket. Pours opaque black with a good head. The nose has raisins and a little bit of chocolate. The taste has more of this but it is more burnt - burnt raisins and burnt chocolate. Medium bodied and creamy texture with a dry finish but it’s slightly astringent. Not bad though!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - DEC 7, 2011
Tasted this in The Saltcot, Saltcoats (JDW) in May 2010. Cask, handpump dispense. Black ruby in colour with a thick creamy tan head. Strong notes of roast grain full in the nose. Creamy mouthfeel and good lacing. Dark malts give a chewy sweet treacle toffee note full in the mouth. Drier flavours come in with burnt toast, chicory, bitter chocolate and mocha coffee. Dry dusty hop resins present in the aftertaste compliment the malt well. A dry liquorice note is present in the moreish finish. A fantastic traditional session mild and highly recommended.

15/11/11. Smells like a dog..smeared with cakemix. Some decent aniseed, even Jagermeister leeching through fart. Mahogany with red glints and a beige top, soon gone. A bit underwhelming to be honest with a burnt wood thinness; that eastern English GK/Elgoods/Bateman’s thing; aniseed, burnt vanilla. Lurking roast. Not great but will revisit. Pint takeout in cardboard carton Octo got me from The Pig for when I finished work- with a romantic little card. Bless that girl.

aroma of malt and slight coffee. in the mouth it is quite watery but packs a decent flavour. slightly sweet and an excellent finsih of burnt toffee with a hint of smokiness.
