Cask (Gallows Bird, Espoo, Great Baltic Adventure)
7+ Lovely chocolatey aroma.
4+ Very dark, small loose head.
7+ Lovely mellowness combined with a huge imperial stout. A touch sweet. So English in its subtlety. No alcohol at all.
4+ Full and smooth, carbonation low. Lovely burnt finish, no ashiness. A touch of fresh hops, a little dry and peppery, some hint of wet sheep too.
17 Puts everything together brilliantly, and is a wow, even if nothing individually says wow. English imperial stout simply doesn’t get better than this.

Cask (handbottled, thanks K.K.!). Pitch black colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is coffee, roasted malts, chocolate and some dark dry fruits. Also some slight notes of alcohol to be found. Flavour is being quite similar along with some nuttyness and liquorice. The flavour hides the alcohol rather well.

Cask at Angleterre, Helsinki, during the Great Baltic Adventure. Poured black in color with fluffy tan head. Roasted coffee, dark chocolate and faint hints of dark whole bread. Dark roasted coffee and light notes of chocolate in flavour. Salty liqourice also in flavour. Pleasant roasted aftertaste. Really delicious and ends with a nice warming finish.

mjs (2998) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JUN 10, 2011
(Cask at Great Baltic Adventure/Gallows, 20110611) The beer poured black. Its head was almost white. Aroma had roasted malts and nuts. Palate was full bodied and dry. Flavours were almost bunt malts, ash, nuts and bitterness. Aftertaste was burnt and bitter. A bit too dry and ashy beer.

Svesse (4392) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - JAN 10, 2011
(Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 26 Nov 2010) Black colour with brief, beige head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of coffee, chocolate, dark bread and a touch of asphalt. Malty, roasted taste with black coffee, dark chocolate, ashes, liquorice and a slightly vinous finish with a generous coffee bitterness. Almost full body, with balanced sweetness. Very nice.
