3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Beaufighter (2) - Leamington Spa, ENGLAND - MAY 2, 2012 does not count
This rating has to take into account the fact that we are talking about a session beer, and what a very good one it is. Crisp, fruity, with a real hoppy tang. I drank it in the same bar that served Adnam’s Southwold, a king amongst session ales, and if it stands comparison with that, it is a good beer indeed. If you see this around, give it a try. It certainly kicks a major southern brewery’s bland rubbish a kick up the bum!

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - DEC 7, 2011
First tasted this in the Hipflask, Saltcoats in December 1998. Cask, handpump dispense. Crystal clear amber in colour with a thin white head. Slight yeasty note in the short aroma. Thin resiny mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts give a digestive biscuit base with a dry currant fruit note. Dry prickle of hop resins impart a dusty bitterness to the short aftertaste. Finish is slightly sweet with toffee undertones. An ok session ale but not outstanding.

Cask (Whetherspoons, Cambridge)
Smells like a decent bitter. Dark for a bitter, more like a dark mild by appearance. Tastes like fruit berries and malt/treacle syrup. Just wrong.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 tdtm82 (668) - Essex, ENGLAND - SEP 9, 2010
Cask, The Woolpack, Chelmsford. Nice faint, floral aroma, off-white lacing, dark brown bitter appearance, sweet caramel in the malt, toffee, delicate note of citric hops, ok bitterness, not too sure if this is the end of the cask but judging by the rates here it probably isn’t.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 sm89walt (1419) - Norwich, Norfolk, ENGLAND - JUN 26, 2009
Cask - Reindeer, Norwich. Horse chestnut in colour with a fine, frothy white head. Slightly smokey aroma, some light fruitiness and some caramel. Sweet flavours of caramel, some mild fruitiness and a short and light bitter finish. Medium body, watery finish, low carbonation and a soft mouthfeel.
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 ladnewton (910) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 4, 2009
Cask at the Basketmakers’ Arms, Brighton, East Sussex, England on 23rd May 2009. A very pleasant session bitter, amber in colour with a head lasting at least three-quarters down the glass with some lacing. Malt and hop intermingle without domination by either to produce a bitter-sweet balance on a fairly smooth mouthfeel. Not an ale to go mad about, but if available on a warm summer evening give it a go - it’s a quencher.
