COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Originally brewed at 4.6%. Has been available in bottle.
Golden Newt is a pale session bitter 4.1%. The beer has a prominent hop character; a blend of Fuggles, Goldings and Cascade has been used in the recipe to bring the delicate hop flavours & aroma to the fore. The use of Cascade gives a pleasing citrus aroma. Finest pale Maris Otter malt has been blended with Wheat malt and Rye Crystal to provide a full flavoured beer. The lavish use of late hop dominates the malt flavour and results in a satisfying pint.

On tap in the Compleat Angler, Norwich. Stood at the bar I have to say the name got me and I had to try it. Sat in the sun the beer has an orange glow with a slight head. Aroma of oranges and fruit. The taste was surprisingly ordinary, slightly watery, sweet but smooth to drink. Has a tangy bitter after taste. I enjoyed it but not great.

UPDATED: FEB 6, 2006 (Cask at Oliver Twist, Stockholm) Colour is golden yellow. Lots of hops in the nose, som fruit as well. Has a distinct and fresh hoppy character, with some fruit (citrus). Starts a bit sweet, but becomes drier towards the finish. Not very complex but tasty and drinkable.

[Cask at GBBF 2005] A slightly hazy orange beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma is sweet and lovely hoppy, while the flavor is lovely hoppy, leading to a dry grassy end.

Cask (gravity dispense), Bedford Beer Festival, October 2005. Originally a Spring seasonal but now apparently a regular brew and the ABV has been reduced to 4.1%. I suspect the Cascade component has been upped as it certainly comes over clearly in the aroma - distinctly citric and flowery. But there’s a bit of dull malt in there that detracts somewhat. Juicy and fruity on the palate. No great complexity, but hits the spot nicely. Tends towards the amber end of gold in colour.

Handpulled at the Alex Hotel, Derby. Hazy caramel (landlord apologised that the heat was getting to it), thickish white head. Pronounced diactyl nose. Subdued citric flavours linger.
