COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular
A strong bitter with a rich brown colour and a strength of 5.2% abv. The full flavour is derived from the recipe of Pale Ale Malt, Torrefied Wheat, Invert Sugar and Roast Barley. The hop blend is from finest English Fuggles and Challenger. The rich raisin character is a result of the fermenttaion of the dark sugars from the Invert sugar & Roast Barley. A palate fullness is another characteristic of this beer.

UPDATED: NOV 26, 2010 Cask at the William Webb Ellis (JDW) in Twickenham. Deep red with a fine cream head, rich fruity nose with hints of herby hops and sultanas, then a creamy slightly smoky palate with hints of pear drops and wine, and a sharp, dry and faintly tart bitter finish. Lovely.

First tasted this in Coanes, Johnstone in September 1997. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear mahogany in colour with a thin creamy off white head. Slight note of Twix in the short aroma. Thin but creamy mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts give a rich digestive biscuit note with caramel and syrupy raisins. Slight prickle of hops gives a bitter aftertaste which fades fast. Finish is slightly sweet and has some caramel still lingering in there. A robust ESB and worth seeking out but very rare north of the border though.

Spoons Fest! Non fest beer! Clear brown beer with a ghost of a head. Zero carbonation. Light soft and dry palate. Toffee and nuts malt and well joined up cherry and orange fruit. Tiny bit of tea and rich tea biscuits! Finishes dry. Tasty. Some attempt at carbonation would have been appreciated!

Cask at the Claude du Vall (JDW), Camberley. Mid brown in colour with a low cream head; aroma of malts and caramel; robust caramel malt flavours with just a touch of raisins; some gentle hops, but the finish is dominated by assertive sour malts. This is strong and robust, and rather similar to Hobgoblin.

Hand pulled at Wetherspoons (under the central library), Birmingham. Copper. Unpleasant. Water, then a platey, dishwatery hit, with metal and sugar, rising in wince power.

cask at Guildford Arms - Pours amber-orange and has a lightly roasted malt aroma. There’s some good bitterness in the flavor, moderately strong at most but nice, along with sweet malt and a bit of caramel. It’s medium bodied and a pretty good quaff.

Cask, gravity at The Trigger Pond, Bucknell, St Georges Beer Festival 26-04-10 Dark amber appearance, but I’m sat outside having just finished a dance and the light is fading so the colour I’m seeing may not be entirely accurate. Fruity with a medium bitterness, some dried fruits good tang. Its ok. A6 A4 F7 P3 Ov13 3.3

Cask handpull, The Reindeer, Norwich. Slight mineral soft saltiness, gentle raisin fruit, nice toasty nut and chocolate bready afters. Dark tawny amber, white lid. Hint of dankness. OK.
