chris_o (4409), London, Greater London, England Feb 22, 2006 Bright bottled from cask (gravity dispense) at White Cliffs Festival. Almost black, but a closer examination, holding it up to the light reveals it to be a very dark ruby colour. Chocolate and burnt malt aroma with some light woody notes. Deep roast malt and dry chocolate on the palate. There’s a good depth of rich berry fruit here too. Distinct bitterness holds it all together with a light, sour lactic edge on the finish. Espresso coffee notes emerge in the aftertaste. Excellent balance and a very fine beer all round. And that’s after a week in a plastic bottle. Shame its not more readily available.
Svesse (1821), Hässelby, Sweden Dec 29, 2007 (Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm, 17 Dec 2007) Pitch black colour with creamy, pale brown head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of cold black coffee and cocoa. Roasted, malty taste with loads of chocolate and cocoa, hints of sweetness and a lovely cocoa bitterness in the finish. Very nice, traditional porter. omhper (10728), Stockholm, Sweden Dec 19, 2007 Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm. Very dark ruby. Light on coffee and molasses. Medium bodied with rounded mouthfeel. Mungo (2474), Southampton, Hampshire, England Nov 28, 2007 Cask conditioned @ Giddy Bridge (JDW), Soton. Vanilla and roasty malts. Slightly sweet but dry roastiness predominates in the finish. Pleasant but by the end seems a little bland. downender (1618), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Nov 16, 2007 Cask-conditioned at the Lloyd’s No 1, Bristol as part of their November 2007 festival. Dark brown coloured with a reddish tinge. Aroma of chocolate, dark fruit and sweetish malt. Flavour of plain chocolate, roasted malt with a dry finish. Very enjoyable.
