Cask Conditoned, Royal Standard, Wooburn Common, Bucks. A very tasty ale. Plenty bitter.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - DEC 7, 2011
Tasted this in the Last Post, Paisley in April 2008. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear amber in colour with a thin white head. Surprisingly sweet malty notes in the long aroma with golden syrup evident. Silky smooth mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malt gives a fiery sweet flavour of tropical fruit syrup, overipe honeydew melon, kiwi and lychees. Dusty floral hop flavours mix with the malt well in the bitter aftertaste. Malt returns in the fruity sweet finish. An excellent session bitter with old traditional flavours. Well recommended.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 BeerCast_Rich (1202) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - OCT 15, 2010
[cask at the Standing Order, Edinburgh] Golden colour on the pour with a sparse white head. Aromas of hops and malt. Lingers a bit too long in the finish, and has an odd maltiness to it that verges on the unpleasant [10042008]
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 DJMonarch (9152) - Northwich, Cheshire, ENGLAND - JUL 28, 2009
Cask Handpump at the Union Vaults, Chester 08/03/2008
Malt and hop aromas. White head. Amber coloured smooth on the palate and hoppy with a crisp dry and slightly bitter full malt finish.
2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 bobinlondon (1179) - Harrow, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 13, 2008
Handpulled cask at JDW Hatch End, Harrow during recent international beer fest. Gold with white head. Sweetish, refreshing, if a little thin, beer. Plenty of hop character on a light body, would make a reasonable session ale I would imagine. Fragrant hop finish, not bad.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 wheresthepath (1087) - Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - MAY 16, 2008
[cask from Back of Beyond, Reading] Interesting one this - a golden-coloured ale, initially floral with a hint of smoke. Then one of those dusty stable type of hops flavours. Slight hint of citrus and rather bitter in the aftertaste, but overall not bad.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 MesandSim (7109) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 12, 2008
A Mes rate: Cask at the Gatehouse ’Sporks.Slightly hazy golden with a thin white head. Apple and wheat with slight hints of marzipan and fruit. Unexpected coffee on the finish. Far from special.
2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 DruncanVeasey (5147) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Prem, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - APR 13, 2008
The Briar Rose (JDW), Brum. Big mistake. Stinks of rust. Flaccid tired hops trying to be citrus. Pale buttery malts and METAL. Can’t be too unkind, because I’m sure it’s not meant to taste like this. Abysmal.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 hughie (3992) - Bedford, Bedfordshire, ENGLAND - APR 12, 2008
Cask at Bankers Draft (JDW), Bedford, in ’Spoons Real Ale Festival. Gold with a white head. Sweet malt aroma and tatse. Grainy rather oily taste with some citrus. Slight bitterness. Decent but unremarkable.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 DonMagi (5599) - bantervile, Bedfordshire, ENGLAND - APR 9, 2008
Cask in the counting house. Aroma is buttery pale malts, floural hop. Taste seems quite yeasty and fruity but again the bittery pale malt character isnt too hot.
