2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Ethereal (2399) - Los Angeles, California, USA - MAR 25, 2012
Draught at the Bricklayers Arms, Putney, 8th April 2011. Brown with no head. Sweet nose of bread and cake. Strong toffee malt flavour, not great, especially the finish and malty aftertaste. I just didn’t like this.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - DEC 7, 2011
First tasted this in the Bull Inn, Paisley in October 1997. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear garnet red in colour with a thin creamy off white head. Hint of toffee in the short nose. Thin mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts give a digestive biscuit note with caramel. Slight hint of sweet dates in this. Good dusty hop flowers present in the bitter aftertaste. Finish is bitter sweet with malt just edging it at the end. An ok session bitter.

2nd pint - Light fruity aroma, amber colour with a tan head. Taste is quite fruity and bitter. Fairly run of the mill stuff however. Not very interesting, so couldn’t recommend this one.
Probably marked this down because first pint was all acidic sediment left from the bottom of the cask. Complained and got a new pint as above.

On cask at the 26th Annual Folk Festival in Ely. A dark orange colour with a thin white head. Aroma of caramel and flavour of sweet treacle. Thinly masked alcohol. A bit musty and heavy.

UPDATED: NOV 11, 2009 Elgoods Pageant Cask conditioned handpump RHTS Rushden. An amber to chestnut coloured beer with a whitish head and lacing. The aroma is fruity with a little off notes. The taste is better with a good fruity base and some sour and toffee flavours behind the malts. Could be better. Score 2.5 Subsequent rating scored 3.4. Average becomes 2.9

(Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm) Dark ruby/mahogany colour with frothy beige head. Malty nose with dark fruit, notes of wild berries and a dash of earthy hops. Malty taste with berries, dark fruit, raspberries and caramel. Pleasant dose of earthy hops in a fairly dry finish. Soft, rounded mouthfeel, some bitter-sweet notes, but mainly dry. Not really adventurous, but very tasty and with amazing balance. Seriously sessionable.
