UPDATED: MAY 26, 2010 Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Very dark brown with a small beige head. Faint ashy malt aroma. Is there a hint of sweet fruit? Probably not; as time passes it resolves itself into maltiness. Musty lint taste, slightly medicinal, with a mid bitter finish. Grim and uncompromising. 26.5.10 Cask outside The Elm Tree, Cambridge in the company of chriso who also thought he was getting a scoop. Rough ashy aroma and sweet ashy taste with some liquorice. Rating: 6,3,6,4,11:3.0

Solid black with no tint and brown head. Smells of liquorice, roasted malt. Chocolate, coffee. Medium to full body. Taste of fruity plums/blackcurrant with some licorice and a full dry roasted malt finish. Some chocolate and coffee to the roast. Nice Stout but seems to lack something that makes me want more.

Liberty Bell Spoons. Clear deep amber beer. Little pale tan head. Light dry palate. Tiny hit of dark malt, whisper of smoke. Nice berry fruits with a little dry hop bitterness. Trace of tangy orange hop before the finish. Alright.

[Cask at the Hope Tap, Reading] Ruby-brown with amoderate cream head and a slight fizz. Coffee up front, with smoke and roasted malt following through. A tasty, competent, well-balanced, easy-drinking stout. Nice one! c8

Cask at Wandsworth Beer Festival, March 2012. It pours deep ruby-brown, with a thin off-white head. The nose is filter coffee, roasted malt, caramel and wood. The taste is caramel, roasted malt, rubber, cocoa, toffee and filter coffee, with a dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Not much to it, but easy drinking.

Cask, Lord Keeper of the Great Seal, Oadby. Dark copper, brown with a beige head. Aromas are toffee and caramel with medicinal notes. Chocolate and smoky, meaty aspects. Hazelnuts with bready yeast and raisins. Flavours are plummy fruits with bittersweet chocolate and toasted malts. Some cocoa grittiness with an earthy, spicy finish. Good.
