COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Seasonal - Christmas.
Snickalmas is our Christmas ale at 5.0%abv. A full bodied deep brown bitter with a fruity aroma, the recipe uses Pale Ale Malt, Torrefied Wheat and Roasted Barley. The hops are a blend of Fuggles and Challenger as main hops in the copper with a late hop addition of Goldings.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Gold brown with white head. Caramel, butterscotch to the fore, a little too dominating for this type of beer, there is a plummy fruitiness within the malt and a sharpish resinous finish. Not a great beer.

Cask at Grand Central (JDW), Fallowfield, 22/12/11. Red/brown colour with a thin white head that leaves a surprising amount of lacing. Malt & caramel aroma. Malty sweetness with a slight sourness. Low carbonation leads to a cloying finish. Not bad, not good.

Cask, The Francis Newton, Sheffield, UK. Medium amber, fruit aroma of apricot with some sweet caramel. Tinny flavour, can really taste the ’Torrefied Wheat’ :-). Finishes with a clove spice.

Leighton (4097) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 8, 2011
Cask at Hamilton Hall, JDW, London. Pours clear, orange-gold with a foamy, white head. Looks nice. Bready malt aroma, some straight sugars, toast. Medium sweet flavor, subtle burnt toffee, creamy malts, faint earthy bitters, hints of ripe fruits. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Some bitter fruits are present in the finish, along with sweet and bready malts. Sticky with some sugar. Not a great beer by any means, but not bad.

tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - DEC 7, 2011
Tasted this in the Saltcot, Saltcoats (JDW) in January 2008. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear pale amber in colour with a thin white head. Dry floral hop note in the short aroma. Thin resiny mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malt in the base with golden syrup sweetness and then a tart shock of lemon fruit notes. Thick hop flowers give a resiny bitter aftertaste which builds up to an astringent moisture sucking finish. Went down well with the local clientele but far too bitter for me.

On cask at JDW, Stone. Pours amber with a white head. Quite malty with a hint of spice followed by a hop balance. Decent.

Cask (Cambridge Blue, Cambridge)
6 Fruity peachy aroma, quite winey.
3 Mid orange, tiny head.
6 Bubblegummy fruity retronasals. SImple sweet malty taste, no real character.
3 Sharp palate, a little acidic. The wineyness of the aroma was a message.
12 Pretty OK, but a little sweet. The acidic, acetic, component tells me this was past it’s prime, so, even though I could tell what kind of beer was at its core, it’s worth revisiting.

Svesse (4392) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - JAN 18, 2010
(Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm, 16 Jan 2010) Dark amber colour with brief head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of dried fruit, orange marmalade and earthy hops. Malty, fruity taste with orange, caramel, dried apricots and earthy hops in the finish. More than medium body, with rounded mouthfeel. Fairly sweet. Nice and tasty beer.

maeib (6634) - Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, ENGLAND - DEC 18, 2009
Cask conditioned handpump Crosse Keys London. A hazy amber coloured beer with an off-white head. A bit of sour mash fruitiness in the aroma which is apparent but perhaps less so in the mouth. Yeasty unsatisfying notes with late bitterness. Pretty undistinguished.

A Mes rate. Cask at the Alfred Herring.
Copper with a thin white head. Very fruity, some nutty notes, slight sourness, faint spice and Christmas pudding. Faint cardboard in the finish. Dull but inoffensive.
