2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 DruncanVeasey (5147) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Prem, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - APR 12, 2011
The Baron. Dense-lidded gold, lace like milk. Aroma of swimming pool water, thistle, varnished table and mown grass. Slick, low carbonation mouthfeel, mown grass, green sap, a lick of rusty lawnmower blade. Shampoo and red apple finish. Slightly dismal and a touch metallic, but in its defence not in top nick. Touch of creamy malt. Elgoods trying to be hoppy? Certainly a challenge, but does improve towards the bottom of the pint pot..

Hand pulled at the Briar Rose, Birmingham. Oh dear, something went wrong here. Either bad condition or bad beer, but this vinegar fest was tart enough to make me leave most of the half pint untouched. The thing that makes me worry is that this still seemed fairly beerlike, with a bold, boring malt structure which registered as my lips drew back over my teeth.
